Guys, just a quick heads-up that the latest release is now available by clicking the download link on the safety camera page or directly here.

We're in the process of updating the webpage to reflect the availability of the newest release.

Hi Darren,

Are there any plans to seperate the cameras into speed groups as they appear on the POI handler and checkpoint websites, it seems to make more sense having the cameras grouped together by their speed limits rather than one large database of every speed camera in the country.

I have subscribed to the POI handler website to enable me to download cameras and would prefer to use the forth coming GPS Assist 2 but there is only going to be two way communication with the pocketgps website.

I would be willing to send you all of the individual camera POI files for different speeds if you decided this as a good idea.

Best Regards

Richard

We hope to introduce this once we have sufficient data to identify cameras by speed.

We don't want the POI Handler files because firstly they aren't yours to give and so we can't legitimately use them and secondly we manually check all submissions which ensures our database is more reliable than others and we risk 'spoiling' the data by introducing the POI handler files.

POI handler may have more locations and speed camera data but if you want quality not quantity then ours is the one to use Thumbs Up

This release appears to have a number of cameras located on the M1, M5, M6 & M42 are these mobile bridge cameras as there are no visbale cameras at these locations? The ones on the M1 seem to be those from the roadworks some months ago?

And that is probably what they are, unless we get notified that temporary roadworks cameras have been removed they will still exist in the database Sad

I guess this is just another way that it helps when people submit cameras with the speed limit. If you get a camera on a motorway with a 40mph limit, you know it's almost certainly a temporary roadworks camera - and you may be able to flag it as such in the POI file(s).

As a matter of interest, how many existing cameras do you have speed limits for? Is it enough to consider a release of the database that has POI files for each speed category as well as a probably much larger 'limit unknown' POI. This may encourage people to submit the speed limits of other existing cameras so that they can be moved into the 'speed limit' POIs.

I think people may have forgotten past encouragement to resubmit existing cameras with the speed limit included.

Contained in the .zip file you should have now downloaded are two files that you need, a .bmp file (the Icon Bitmap) and a .ov2 file (the database).

Copy both these to the map folder on your XDAII, then within TT ensure that the 'POCKETGPS_UK_SC' POI is enabled and you should see Gatso Icons in Map and Navigator View that indicate camera locations.

To receive alerts as you approach these locations you need to install some additional software such as CheckPOInt.

You need one of the POI Alert utils of which there are three to choose from.

GPSAssist
CheckPOInt &
POIWarner

CheckPOInt is currently free and available in our downlaod section here.
