|
|
Taken from another forum:-
In case any of you were even THINKING of buying a TomTom map on one of their SD card (I think it was only some v710 maps that you did have the choice of download or SD versions); all I can say is DON'T.
Finally, TomTom have confirmed my suspicions that these SD card maps CANNOT be copied to a larger card or a backup copy used on a new card if you ever lost or damaged the original SD card.
I quote from TT Support:-
"Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.
After consulting with the 2nd line department, my colleague was correct in what they had said that it is not possible to transfer maps to a new SD card. This has to do with the certain file that can not be transfered once the map has been installed on the first SD card.
Important! Maps 7.10 on SD cannot be copied to another location because the certificate won't be recognised anymore. The customer will always need to use the original SD card!
With Best Regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team" |

I think someone at TomTom is telling porkys again, unless they have altered the way a map is locked down, somehow I doubt this - Mike |

It didn't seem to ring true to me either, but didn't want to be the first to stick my head above the parapet!
If nothing else, would make a mockery of their own instructions to always make backups.
Easy enough to check... If someone has one of these maps on SD, could they try a quick copy? |

Still have my 710 and when I got it I did backup the SD card to a new one and used that. Just did it again to check and the copy works. |

I noticed this on their shop site yesterday. What I can't understand is why anybody would want to buy v7.10 on an SD card for GBP 59.95, as opposed to buying v7.15 download for GBP 59.95. Am I missing something? _________________ Dennis
