We were "sort of mislead" by a web advert for the Tom Tom 720. It implied that the Western Europe map included Malta. The satellite image definately shows the island of Malta, so they were part right - but there is no map.

Tom Tom say they "don't do Malta yet" - so does anyone else "do Malta" that will work on a Tom Tom 720?

Any advice, guidance or tips would be most welcome.

Afraid not.
The only maps that will work on a TomTom are those supplied by TomTom themselves.
Although the raw map data is supplied by other companies (mainly TeleAtlas for TomToms), the actual map used HAS to be created by TomTom.

Afraid not. Each manufacturer will only allow their own maps to be used as stated above and there is no way to convert maps from one the other.

Having driven around Malta and Gozo I can say I'd never take my eyes off the road to read a SatNav.

Though the first day is quite daunting and once you are sure where your appartment is, its great fun there.

Very true LQA having lived in Malta for two years in the early 1970's. Went back for a long week end a few years ago and a SatNav would be of little use. how about scanning a map then making an over lay to go into the Raster file

I'd just like to say, Malta and especially Gozo is the WORST holiday destination ever... tourists should avoid it like the plague.(especially whenever I'm there Wink )

Evil or Very Mad Not nice of you to say that. Obviously you're not one of the increasing number of tourists (+23% in Jan. 08 alone) that come to Malta and keep on coming again and again.

So long as he doesn't go to my favourite beaches.....GHAJN TUFFIEHA BAY
or Gnejna Bay. Used to be the quietest places to go.

Cool

Sorry Reuben, as M8TJT says, you did miss my poor attempt at humour.

I have been visiting Gozo for over 20 years and it is my favourite place on the planet. I just hate being just another tourist!

I have two daughters, 10 & 13, they've been to Disneyland Fl and Gozo. Gozo is their choice destination for this year.

We had a taxi take us from the airport to our villa in Gozo. This was a very good idea on our part as this would have been stressful. The hire car was delivered to us next morning. We never needed a sat nav though we had a tourist map. If we got lost we just drove on until we came to the next place to swim.

I hope the place never goes commercial. It was great not having kids asking for things all the time.
