Hi there
Can anyone tell me why whilst posting a reply and going to Preview an Information Box came up with the message:
Invalid_Session
It's never happened before, but I couldn't get out of it so I lost all of the text in my Post.
Regards

Hi Alfie,
I don’t know why it happens; I get it occasionally as well. I find that if you delete the PocketGPS cookies from the PC folder (i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Cookies) and log back onto the website you should be OK. Presuming of course that you’re using MS Windows! ;)
Tip: I tend to write posts in MS Word so that I can improve my spelling a bit as it is awful! If I get an invalid session then I do the above but I still have the writing in MS Word, which I can copy & past into the forum.

Hi Robert
Thanks for that information, I'll bear it in mind for the future. Over the years I've been dead lazy so I'll have to have to get back to doing what you suggest and write up everything using MS Word and then copy & paste.
Well now I'm going to have a go for the third attempt to post a reply on the Navman Forum.
Fingers crossed
Regards

This can sometime ocurr when you are behind a firewall be it corporate or personal. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Another cause of this is if you've not been active in the forums for a little while. The session eventually times out, and when you attempt to do anything with any windows you opened in the timed out session, you get this error.
The way out is to press CTRL A in the main part of the editor window, then CTRL C to copy that text to the clipboard.
You can then paste that text back into an editor window once you've opened a new copy of Internet Explorer and got back into the forums (or, indeed, into a text editor if you want to save it temporarily) by pressing CTRL V.
Another reason this can happen is if you follow a link that someone has posted that includes a sid element in the URL.

David
I've just picked up your post and now having read it I'm sure that was what happened. Something else I must remember for the future.

I tried the workarounds above and none work.
However I was behind my co's firewall, so if this post works then it must be that (on my home connection now).
Let's see if Preview works.....
Yes it does - so why is the firewall making a difference? |

Yes, I know Microsoft ISA Firewall has this issue for example. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Usually Invalid_Session means that it hasn't been able to translate the session from your locally stored cookie to the web server. This usually happens if you have pop-up blockers/privacy controls installed on the PC, but can also happen on some proxy servers and company firewalls that are piping all content through the same session, in effect screwing up the cookie. |

Good morning all, hope you are enjoying the weather
Since my original posting I've not had a repeat of an Invalid_Session. I'm running Windows XP and the Microsoft Firewall is enabled all the time. I make a point now of regularly going into the Temporary Internet Files & Cookies and deleting them. It seems to have helped. I also took DavidW's advice and I try to make sure my session is not allowed to Time Out.
Bye the way David, congratulations on achieving 1.5K of postings, I hope you are feeling better.
Best wishes

I'm also getting trouble with this on my work PC. I notice that each time I click on a thread the sid changes wheras at home it stays the same. I've tried deleting cookies and fiddling with settings but still can't post.
Other forums which use the phb software work fine.
On web search I saw some suggestions about upgrading phb software or calling the cookie a different name.
Does anyone have any work around

I suspect what is happening is that there are other people at your work place who are also surfing this website and you have a proxy server or cache installed and that's why the SSID is changing, because it's picking up somebody elses. We have the same implementation of phpBB that everyone else has, so there's no difference there, but you may just find that some people don't have accounts on other sites. This is a downside of proxying and web caches. The up side is they save you money in terms of bandwidth because they store locally cached pages, but those locally cached pages will also contain user id's which then become a security risk.
Unfortunately nothing we can do. |
