Best all in one device. sat nav and camera alerts.

Hi,

I'm very confused which all in one device to go for.

I've had on loan a Road Angel Navigator 9000 which seems ok, what i mean by that is the Speed camera alerts are spot on!! the sat nav side of things are not so good. Liked the way it handles average speed alerts and it's very clear where the cameras are.

My requirements are, regular updates, euro maps, brilliant speed camera detection and sat nav, tell you the speed your currently doing which is very important as my speedo plays up, also the speed limit your in so you know for cameras and very clear camera alerts. updates on the go would be a nice additon if not i do have the web.


I've looked at.

Snooper Syrius S2010 proline Euro
Road Angel Navigator 9000
Pogo Drive.

I think the syrius looks the best. Now your going to say why the S2010 because the golf thingy is pointless. yes it is for pointless for me but it has no subscription and is totally free as where the S2000 is a one off payment of £100 so might as well get the better one for the extra £100 as you would of spent that on the subscription.

Any other models you can think of are welcome.

I also considered a tom tom as the maps i believe are the best and it's very clear on navigation and don't bug you every 5 min but.... the speed camera alerts let it down which is a biggy for me.

None of those I'm afraid. All the nav systems from the established speed camera people (Road Angel, Snooper, Origin etc) have very poor navigation solutions.

If you must have an all in one then I would suggest a decent navigation system first and foremost.

If you had a TomTom or Garmin etc and used our database you would have at least as much accuracy on the safety camera side and a decent navigation solution.

The only downside is the alerts are less intergrated but just as effective nevertheless.

Get yourself a TomTom ONE, with the speed zoned camera database from this site, and the spoken warnings from here too.

I have been using a Road Angel 6000 for the past 18 months,great for the cameras,but as for the navigation ,After contacting Road angel they updated my software to the 7000,but still naf,When in Fort william we needed an A&E the road angel came up with a hospital in London !!!.

I have now purchased a TOM TOM 520T so the Navigation will be the paramount backed up with the camera base from this site.

I have just integrated my Ipaq 2210 with a Globalsat CF-337 unit, TomTom navigator 6, SpeedSentry and of course PocketgpsWorlds database and very good it is too.

You get to make even more use of your PDA, if you own one already that is, rather than just carrying around a navigation unit to keep it safe from thieving hands. SpeedSentry gives a very good visual alert of speed cameras ahead when used as a stand-alone detector. you have a large speedometer reading and you can manually set the speed warning to keep you alert of the restrictions in closely monitored areas. When a speed camera is detected the manual speed warning changes temporarily to give a visual display of the speed limit in that zone. Works well. TomTom navigator of course is highly recommended here and when in use instead of speedsentry still uses the pocketgpsworld database, so best of both worlds. And having used it twice recently to go to unknown places its definitely better at getting to the right location than your "Road Angel"

You can of course use other navigational software as well, Ordnance Survey etc to give you a great deal of flexibility. Sure its a somewhat cobbled together system but its definitely better than the Origin Pogo combined system I had, albeit very briefly.

I bought a magnetic mount of Ebay for a £0.99 which is actually very good. Though I also managed to get hold of a Brodit Active Mount Holder also for a fiver.

So until a much better combined product comes along that combines both navigation and a speed camera solution that work well together, I'm sticking with this layout.

It may only be value for money if you already own a PDA device however.

PS. Definitely don't opt for the Pogo Drive.
