Testing out the route planning on TT One XL today I found that on a journey which involved travelling about 2 miles from one roundabout to another on the bypass of a local town I was, instead, taken from one roundabout into the center of the town and out again to the other roundabout - about double the distance.

Is this a common problem?
Three thoughts for you
1. TomTom mapping may be wrong, with a section of road incorrectly blocked. Post here the details of the route you planned (start and end Long/Lat coordinates) for others to test the same.
2. You may have got it wrong - to set that up, you need to ensure you get your start and finish on the right road or carriageway - if you started on the eastbound and ended on the westbound, the correct route might have been through town. Zoom as far down onto the road as possible to make sure it's right.
3. You may have planned wrongly - yesterday, I was driving to go along my own local bypass when the TT directed me off through town, then back again at the other end. I discovered that I had somehow hit the wrong button and chosen Bicycle Route (bypass doesn't allow bicycles). _________________ Dennis

Another cause could be that as you approached the roundabout you had a slight loss of signal and it thought you were in a different position, e.g. the other side of the roundabout. In this case the route via town may have been correct.
I've had an instance (in France) where I was directed to take the third exit at a roundabout, which I did, only to be told shortly after to make a U turn. I did and proceeded back to the roundabout where I was told to take the fourth exit, yep, back to where I had just been. This time no problems. Momentary loss of signal can play havoc.
Try driving along the Teign Valley, poor signal, and you'll often find yourself as in the river.
