|
|
Hi All
Trying to upload POI's to my streetpilot c550, and I noticed it seems to "stall" if ther are too many -does anyone know if there's a way round it? or even what the limit is? is it number of POI's, or number of categories, or what?
Cheers

When POILoader uploads POIs it converts them into a new file called POI.gpi.
If you have a lot of POIs this can take time and POILoader may appear to stall or freeze. Give it time and it should complete.
How many POIs are you trying to upload? |

Sorry, I need to clarify. Its the unit that stalls once the poi loader is done, not the upload. I'm not really sure how many there are, but a few thou, I guess.

There is anotice on the POI download page that reads
Quote: | Special Note to i3 users: DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL MORE THAN 85 POI CATEGORIES AS THIS WILL CAUSE YOUR UNIT TO FAIL TO BOOT! If you have a card reader make a backup of your Micro-SD card to PC before downloading these POIs. If you have a newer model with no transflash card then you should use POIs on a separate TransFlash card to avoid any possible corruption of the internal memory.
Special Note to nuvi users: DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL MORE THAN 257 POI CATEGORIES AS THIS WILL CAUSE YOUR UNIT TO FAIL TO BOOT! It is advisable to install the POIs onto a separate SD Card so if you do have problems then you can remove the poi.gpi file from the memory card from a separate card reader.
LATEST:
This issue has been resolved with version 3.90 of the firmware for nuvi 310 and 360.
This issue has been resolved with version 4.60 of the firmware for nuvi 300 and 350.
This issue has been resolved with version 4.10 of the firmware for nuvi 660. |
However i don't recall anything for the c550.
When you say the unit stalls, what does / doesn't happen?
How do you correct this stall? |

I'm trying to use POI's on an SD card. As soon as I put it in, the unit slows down, and then freezes on what ever screen it was on at the time. The only way to correct it is to remove the card and turn off then on. I guess this could be the same issue? _________________ Mapping BOAT's in Hampshire -if I can get the B*£$%^d garmin I bought to do it working properly... |

Possibly.... How many categories are you using?
Try half of the POIs and see what happens. |

About 100. Will try cutting that number down, and see what happens... Think we could have a new error to report to GArmin here! _________________ Mapping BOAT's in Hampshire -if I can get the B*£$%^d garmin I bought to do it working properly... |

good luck... they denied for ages that there was an issue and actually told customers that our poi files were corrupted and damaging units!! i even sent a massive long report to them with full information after about 4 hours of experimenting on both the i3 and nuvi yet it still took them ages to issue a fix (and until then they still claimed it was our 'corrupted' pois...!)

cheers for the help guys. I'm now down to about 20 sub categories, and they all work.
I needed to talk to Garmin anyway, as their Estonian (of which my wife is a native speaker) voice direction is a complete pile of arse. They have, apparently, just translated word for word, which does not work from a simple (grammatically) language like english to a complicated one like Estonian.
Anyway, if garmin are going to be deficult about it, I will jump up and down. If they cant cope with people loading PoI's, why provide a PoI Loader????? _________________ Mapping BOAT's in Hampshire -if I can get the B*£$%^d garmin I bought to do it working properly... |
