well tomtom have replied to say that the mda vario is not on the list and is therefore not supported any more. however, i think the problem is more likely to t-mobile's recent update of it that has not been given the right bluetooth 'stuff'. i suspect that if i could get the my t-mobile to provide the bluetooth service that the tom tom tells me is now missing, then they would probably work together as they did before using the old vario settings that were in the tom tom set of choices when you installed a new phone to it. as i said, i've tried installing the wm6 dun but to no effect. a bit stuck now. |

The DUN profile upgrade in the link is for WM6 NOT WM5 devices (there was a DUN profile CAB installer available for WM5 devices a while back, but I think it was removed), the original link for the MDA C-III ROM provided by Alix in the first post is still offering the ROM update from T-Mobile - quite simply it works.
The staff in my local store were a little confused though yesterday when I turned up with a C-III running WM6 and the Pointui interface. - Mike |

You keep refering to your device as a vario, exactly which one have you got? - Mike |

i just tried the wm6 named 'hero....' but it didn't want to even begin to update. it froze at a rainbow coloured page (no, i'm not on drugs!) and i got my old setup back just with a soft reset. |

But this thread is for information relating to the MDA Compact III which is a different device, your link points to a vario ROM, what is the actual phone you have? - Mike |

The one in the picture! but there is no thread as far as I know for a vario. the reason I am here is that my tomtom one xl has always worked fine with my mda Vario from T-mobile until the update that T-mobile put out a week ago. Similarly, there is no Vario as such on the Tomtom list of phones when you go to connect on the tt, but the Tomtom traffic updating service works fine if I connect as an Mda Compact.
My phone uses wm5 and the tt gets stuck apparently wanting a 'voice gateway' from my phone once it has seen the bluetooth fleetingly. iIam thinking that with the right bluetooth stack this will work. Why do I think that? Because I had a similar problem getting my motorola bluetooth stereo headphones to connect, but got hold of a Zoki A2DP bluetooth cab which sorted that out fine. The new T-mobile update no longer requires the zoki cab to get my stereo phones working, so Microsoft must have improved the bluetooth in this update. However it is now denying access to my Tomtom. The Zoki stack doesn't do it either any more. Perhaps I should just give up! |

It's an HTC Wizard 200 I've just found out. Is that any use? |

i know what this is now. windows mobile are migrating from the bt dun bluetooth protocol to a new, improved one called bt pan. my tomtom certainly seems to need the bt dun to work with my phone. phone providers were apparently given a choice of two versions of the update to windows mobile 5, the one with the bt dun as well and one with only the new version. Apparently, (this is only from a wm5 forum) t-mobile have opted for the one that doesn't have the bt dun. i don't know how many people there are out there with gps devices that rely on bt dun and who use the traffic updates but it's probably more than just me!
anyway there is a big fuss going on about it . i hope they acn produce a patch or something.
I won't trouble this thread any more with this.
all the best! |
