I presume you are suggesting that every box junction cross-hatching could be used as a distance reference. Good point.
Personally I would treat any red light camera as containing a speed check.

NO, NO! The camera painted yellow, just like all the other speed cameras - my inclination is if it ain't painted Hi-Viz yellow, it's just a redlight camera. If it's painted yellow and pointing at a traffic light setup, it's what PGPSW now call "Redspeed" and place into the Gatso file (which is really "Fixed" speed cameras).
And from my experience of some white (and yellow) line painting contractors, I'd not be confident of using some of their markings for reference!! _________________ Dennis

I thought they used Induction Loops in the ground? |
Yes, but they need the lines as well for secondary confirmation of the speed of the vehicle. That's why normal red light cameras can't nick you for speeding (though they do flash at speeding motorists some times) _________________ Gone fishing! |

They do.. but I was talking about the speed calibration lines used as a secondary proof, which are what you can SEE, to guess if it's a combined redlight and speed camera.

There are cameras near me that are deff. redlight only that are yellow on the back.
I don't think it can be a red/speed WITHOUT being yellow at the moment - but I think they've just revoked the rule that any speed cam has to be yellow.
As far as I know the ones that look like thin gatsos are only redlight, but one that looks like a Monitron is likely to be both. That's the criteria I'm using at the moment (along with the white lines). |
