It's a known limitation.
Most users install 3rd Party Custom POIs.
See HERE for a good selection. _________________ Richard

It's the OV2 Files rather than the Link that the TTs use. _________________ Richard

As my PC skills are semi limited is it straight forward enough to get them on my TT? |

Three stages.
1. Select and download the POIs of your choice.
2. Using Windows Explorer, double click the downloaded file called POIs.zip in order to Unzip the POIs. You'll finish up with two files for each POI you choose, e.g. Halfords.OV2 and Halfords.BMP.
3. Copy and paste these into the map folder on your TT.
Try it with just a couple as a trial. (It's the same method as using the OV2 files from the speed camera database). _________________ Dennis

...and just a reminder to avoid confusion, they AIN'T "v3 Tomtoms" - they are "3rd Edition" which is v5 or 6 at least.... |

How do I do stage 3? | If you've got this far, you've already "mastered" Windows Explorer. Connect the TT to your computer, switch it on and say YES when asked if you want to connect to computer. When TT Home starts, leave it running, but start Windows Explorer to carry out the following ...
A. Using Windows Explorer, highlight the OV2 and BMP files concerned, then press Edit in the top menu, then Copy.
B. Then move your cursor to the map folder on your TT and press Edit, then Paste.
Finally, remember to disconnect the TT "properly" - in TomTom Home, select (top menu) Device .... Disconnect Device and wait until it tells you that it's OK to disconnect. _________________ Dennis

I thought just for the record that I would mention my TT920 does not connect to the computer if I first plug in the usb cable and then turn on the 920. My 920 has to already be powered on and then I have to "hot connect" the usb and then I get the "Computer Yes/No" prompt. It may be my system (xp sp2) or something else odd about it. But definitely use the usb/device icon in the TaskTray to disconnect the device. |

How strange. My 920 and 720s #6 and #7 are sitting in their desktop docks right now, USB plugged in and they are charging up (presumably). If I now switch one on, I get the Yes/No prompt. I'm with XP Pro X64-bit. I get the same on a laptop with XP Home SP2 and on a MacBook Pro. Seems something weird is going on with yours. _________________ Dennis

I have not given it a try on my laptop (xp home) just yet. The usb is one directly to the rear of the computer (not a hub). It is a "normal" usb cable (used for garmin 76 gps, Creative mp3, camera) and not the dock.
At least, it works when I do it the way I describe so I will keep fingers crossed (knock on wood) that it continues to do so (altho, I just accidently unplugged it without "safely removing"!!!! ) |

With my XL, if I use Home to 'disconnect', I can't connect again unless I reboot the PC (XP SP2). Using 'Eject' on the right-click menu on the icon in 'My Computer' or 'Safely remove...' from the taskbar works fine though. _________________ Gerry

jetskidia wrote: | When I get to point A I dont get an Edit option??? | Edit is on the Menu Bar at the top of the Explorer Window. Between File and View.
jetskidia wrote: | also cant find map folder on TT?? | In the Explorer Window there will be a Drive Letter and the Drive Name of TomTom.
If you Click the "+" symbol next to the Drive it will Expand the Files/Folders on the TomTom.
The Map Folder Name varies according to which Device you have. It will be a 'yellow folder' Icon and may be called Western_Europe or Great_Britain_and Republic of Ireland. _________________ Richard
