Bought a 970T a week ago initially TMC worked fine but I was unable to update Camera database as per other posts on Forum. I have updated the software to 7.0.2 as suggested and tried it all out today for only the units second journey. I still can’t update the camera database and now have no TMC, status screen just says searching and nothing is happening. Does anyone else have this \ these problems, and is there any way of knowing if the TMC is receiving any signal or if the ariel is broken, I hope not as its only been used twice! |

I've had none of the problems you are experiencing...
Is yours the UK edition? I think patch 7.0.3 may fix this problem (out before Xmas). TMC works depending on reception... you can’t expect to work everywhere. TMC locks onto classic FM here in Oxford.
Do you have the TMC aerial plugged into the mount securely (you can’t plug it into the device directly). |

Totally agree. TMC is very dependent on the signal so it won't always work. I have known my x980t to spend all evening 'searching' but the following morning was working fine. So even issues with the TMC service itself could cause problems with the device. As it's a hidden signal it would be impossible to tell if the system was down for any reason.
Don't give up on the device on the basis of the TMC as ViaMichelin have no control over this and all TMC devices will suffer the same issues. |

All thanks for the feedback, OK I will wait and see what 7.0.3 does! Re TMC I appreciate the signal is nothing to do with VM and indeed UK is somewhat behind (surly not) other countries, but I would have thought I would see the unit scanning channels \ stations even if couldn’t find a TMC signal, it did nothing, as far as I can see. Stu I may do that although would like to try 7.0.3 first, any idea when it’s out? |

When I plug my traffic aerial into the mount (make sure it clicks), and go to SET--Traffic Info-- Traffic info status... the status screen constantly searches for a channel (you can see them flicking through) until it finds Classic FM. Only advice I can give you is make sure the aerial is properly inserted into the mount. |

Latest news I have is that V7.03 will be online by the end of this week at the latest!!
I will chase them some more tomorrow - They usually finish things faster when they have the annoying English bloke calling and emailing all day long!! _________________ Leyio = Share anywhere anytime!

I had a similar problem with my v.6 970T several times - after some trial and error, I found that if it wasn't scanning, a reset would often get it going. I drove all the way across Germany without a single traffic message (or green TMC icon), and then, on the return trip (once I had discovered this) it was green almost the entire way. |

Got my brand spanking new X970T lunch time today - thanks Stu (Don't forget to check your email !) and since then have been playing with it. Like all new toys, it has hidden depths and I suspect I will be unravelling everything over the next few days.
Have installed the software - initially it just would not synch...don't know why but it took nearly an hour and then suddenly did so - nothing to do with me. Everything I want, well nearly everything, is now installed.
Went for a short run (in the car) to test and nearly leapt out of my seat when that woman shouted at me..turned down her volume and she is behaving now. Will take some time to get used to the curios terminology used in directions but then have not yet got used to her indoors when she used to use maps and that's quite a few years.
Picked up the local cameras OK and took me direct to the door of the person I had to visit. I note too that the mapping is very accurate for this town. All the mini roundabouts - some built in the last couple of years are accurately displayed.
Off on a trip to Switzerland in the early hours of Friday so will give it a good test. Cannot find any Campanile Hotels on the POIs so will have to use my old device for that, but they can be added later unless of course they are hidden where I am not looking
Thanks a lot Stu.
Graham
PS No TMC signal whilst driving (no athermic windscreen) but after installation of the various software got a signal indoors. Bad traffic holdup on the M25! _________________ Gee-Pee

Gee-Pee - In France you'll find Campaniles in Useful Addresses / Accommodation by doing a Name Search for 'Criteria' for the area/town of interest. I don't know where to look in Switzerland, but if you do, you will hopefully find some. _________________ David

Thanks, I was looking under hotels. Silly me Switzerland is OK, as my son lives there and I will be staying with him.

Have you tried a reset (with a pin)? |

I find this hard/soft reset a strange method to solve problems. Ther must be something fundamentally wrong with these devices if this is really the solution to all problems. I never needed to do this with other devices. Maybe viaMichelin should step away from Win CE and then we don't have the drivers problem for Vista 64 anymore either.

It is a little annoying but I don't think its the only device that needs a reboot (basically what a reset is). My friends use TomToms and they have to reset theirs quite frequently. I agree it should not require a reset, but its should be understood that the majority of Sat Nav software is a collection of components (sometimes made by a 3rd parties). If one component has a bug (say the audio driver) then the only way for us to sort it out is to reboot (until the component manufacturer fixes the bug). We cant just terminate the process with CRTL + ALT + DEL like on a PC and restart the application.
Re: Moving away from Windows... This would probably be one hell of a job and require complete redevelopment of the product (i.e move to Linux). I'm not even sure what Garmin/TomTom use? I think moving from WinCE is a little impractical...but removing the dependency on Active Synch may be possible and worthwhile (this may make porting to other OS easier).
We just need to report these bugs and be patient... I'm sure it will be fixed. Stu is listening in too...
Edit: I've also been told that Vista 64 issues are being sorted out as well. |

Problem is that I reported several problems and one replies with this standard copy/paste V6 (despite the fact that I clearly indicate it's 7.02 I'm using) hard reset procedure as answer. As if this is a one solution fits all for all the problems which aren't cartography related.
Let's compare it with something else: I report that nothing gets printed and one replies that I need to reboot the PC or even reinstall windows. A better solution would be to ask to print a test page via the menus of the printer itself. Then you'll know if it's the printer itself or not. If not, you can look futher on USB cables, PC HW and printer drivers.
