Photography on the Artemis HTC P3300 (control trackball)

Hi chaps - slowly getting to grips with this excellent device and have just moved onto the camera (which BTW is amazing - it compares really well with my old 3.2mp Sony) - anyway, to the point - I understand most of the camera on-screen controls and they are all fine when I navigate around them with a stylus but as soon as I start getting clever and use the wheel and ball there seems to be little control on what is being controlled - eg if I choose still image and then use the trackball to zoom the 'capture mode' changes to, say, video. I'm not sure I'm being that clumsy - is there a way to lock the basic settings or should I avoid the 'ball' ? Thanks for your time - Roger
