Hi,
having real problems with TTFF on my setup. I'm using a Holox BT-321 linked to a HTC TYTN running TOMTOM 6. I can now do a 30 mile trip before getting a fix and if I do get one I'm having trouble keeping it. Recently got a Vauxhall Astra which some searching suggests has a treated screen and think this is the cause of the problems. I can get a fix outside the car and it was fine until recently.
I don't own the car (company) so can't modify it but was planning to try an external antenna. I think the connection is MMCX but would be grateful if anyone could confirm this? If so is ebay the best bet for antenna? Seem to be about a tenner all in rather than thirty elsewhere. Do you get what you pay for?
thanks
A. |

It is an MMCX.
Yes - you tend to get what you pay for - but most antennae are OK.
Yes the windscreen will be causing problems with TTFF. One solution is to place the GPS receiver on the rear parcel shelf - this glass is not treated and you should get a good signal level.
Moving increases the TTFF; part of the process for getting a fix requires the GPS receiver to "guess" where it is located based on information received. It then refines this to get a fix. If you keep moving - it takes longer. _________________ Phil |

thanks.
Will order a cheap one & see how I get on.
I knew moving makes for longer TTFF but have waited 15 min without success. Will try parcel shelf until antenna appears but have an estate so is a vertical opening. |
