Anita... be cool.. they're only winding you up and they're onlydoing ia affectionately, becuase you're "one of us" now (whether you like it or not! )

I'd be interested to know how you managed that, although I've got used to Home 2 now, so wouldn't try it. |
I think it was Mike A, who told me only recently that the option to keep v1.5 or 1.6 was only included in the beta trial version of v2.
By the time the final version came out, It had gone, but if you had opted to keep it, later updates seemed to leave it alone after that. |

Yes, I know that really. But I just don't want to rub it in about my good luck.

Ah, I see. I missed the boat then! But fortunately v2.1 is working well for me. _________________ Anita

Don't bother. The guys are a little jealous of your good lusk. All other of us like to get the newest maps as easy as you, but we are stucked to the endless fight with TomTom support
You got them, you can now inform us about the changes in the maps (if any).
First Home which I installed was 1.5, then from TomTom CD the 1.6, after docking my 720, I upgraded to 2.0 with uninstalling 1.6, now I have 2.1 without any problems (the not working Latest Map Guarantee is a feature). _________________ Harry (TT GO720T) |

The trouble is knowing what has been changed. Out in the sticks here the roads don't change much, and the only things I've noticed are the "High Street Colliers" and "Main Road Earls" corrections. There are also one or two mini-roundabout directions that I don't think were on the previous maps, but by no means all of them.
But if anyone wants anything specific checked I'll be happy to oblige, of course. _________________ Anita

If I had trusted TT Home 2 Beta in the first place, I'd still have v1.5 and/or v1.6. Next time TomTom bring out something new, I shall go for it without a moment's hesitation.
Somebody remind me please - how many GO720 App releases since the first devices were released onto the High Street Colliers and Main Road Earls, how many TT Home releases since the 1.5 at that same time? Is it that TT are quick to bring out improvements, or are they copying Billy Gates with public beta testing?
Anita, could you just have a quick look please to see if there is still a mini roundabout at N51.45226, W2.41842? There's NEVER been a roundabout there in at least the last 33 years to my personal knowledge. _________________ Dennis

Still shown as a roundabout, Dennis. _________________ Anita

You could use MapShare to request a change, but I think a letter to the local council might be easier, ask them to build a roundabout at the location, I wonder which would happen first, the new road structure or an updated map with this put right - Mike |

TTH is the program TT have designed specifically for their devices. An important (vital?) part of the program is the backup facility. You seem to be saying on the one hand that TT software is fine - and on the other that you don't trust it to do one of its' most important functions (if not the most important) i.e. the backup ! Not being able to trust the software to do backups is definitely a problem in my opinion ! |
I think you missed the point. The fact that I haven't had any problems with the new version isn't a reason for not taking an independent backup. It seems to me to make a lot of sense to have a separate backup just in case the TTH were to fail. After many years of using computers on a variety of different platforms, experience has taught me never to rely soley on built in backup functions. As I have already said, I've had no problems with the last or current TTH versions but that doesn't mean I won't in the future.

I don't think I've ever used a built in backup program. DOS used to have one didn't it? _________________ Dennis

I have both Home 1.6 and Home 2.1 installed. To switch between the two make sure that home is not already running and then launch the program shortcut you want. (Check your systray in case the TomTom icon is hidden)
Alternatively de-select "start tomtom home when windows starts" in the preferences menu and manually start whichever version you want to run. |
