Doesn't TomTom Home automatically delete the old map prior to installing the new one? |

If it has the same name as the new one it may well delete the old map, BUT it needs the space on the device to install it.
Best bet is to copy the the entire memory system from the TomTom device (SD or Flash) to the PC using Windows Explorer PRIOR to attempting any upgrade
At least this ensures a recoverable situation if it all goes wrong, #1 of the FAQ page covers doing this, see Here - Mike |

Re-downloaded the map, and it still doesn't show up on the map select list.
I'm guessing the problem could be that tomtom have let me download the wrong map.
The go720 comes installed with "Western Europe", the new downloaded map is "Western and Central Europe"
This is really annoying the hell out of me.
Tomorrow I'm going to buy a memory card and see if the North America Map will install.
BET's are officially OPEN.......... |

Updated my OV2 from V652 to V710. Had to delete some space on the card but was able to install again after map upgrade.
No probs so far. |

Only if the map directory names are the same. _________________ Tim |

Well the .dct file is tied to both the map and the device. If the .dct file has the same name as the map, and you downloaded both from TomTom, they should work. I don't use HOME2 by choice, but in HOME 1.6 I have a list of certificates which correspond to the appropriate maps. The item description includes the code for the device that the certificate is associated with. _________________ Tim |

So is the new map called the same? It looks like the size is 1.7gb compared to 1.5gb. It looks like i may need to get a 4gb SD card if i am going to intstall the new map. I only got <200mb left on the original card... and i haven't really put anything extra on it apart from the speed cams from here. |

It really is irritating when they issue new maps so soon after releasing new devices but just late enough so the map guarantee is no longer valid for those that bought the new kit hot off the shelf.

Yes, also my first device was exchanged by TomTom due to bluetooth problems but the update applies to the first registration not the replacement |

Ive just downloaded the new western europe map 710.1561,and ive had a good look through it and there not much difference between it and the 675 maps still roundabouts not there that ive been telling teleatlas for two years now.one thing it looks better, but its still not worth the 40 pound.why do navteq get it right years before tele atlas.also the new navcore 7 has loads of bugs in it wont let you use ogg files and default sounds together when you try it wipes all your camera warning sounds off

teecee90 - You are not suggesting that TomTom knowingly did such a thing, to enhance their profitabilty are you!
I think you will find it is pure coincidence it has happened this way! Oh look Porcine aviation overhead! _________________ Mick

Well I emailed TT CS yesterday haven't had a reply yet so I thought sod it I will follow your lead as I just bought v6.75 seven days ago.
Was told I should have been given the latest map automatically on my account, so it's been esculated to a secondary technician but I have been told I will get v7.10.
Well I believe it when it happens appartantly that wont be until Monday/Tuesday of next week. Fingers crossed |

Yeah but I just got an email appartanly as I bought the upgrade after the 18th of October I should have mine instantly.
For whatever reason I am not being offered it instantly and as such I'll have to wait till a techie is available on Monday, but who cares I am getting it for nothing and I am more than happy with that so I'll just have to sit back and wait for now. I know where I am going this weekend so I wan't get lost in the meantime |
