The doctors libraries etc is still crap, bought 720 on Sat and the only thing that works is the Hospitals, that comes up correctly.
Its fairly obvious that the other pois are not linked to current position in the s/ware so it doesnt look for the right ones?
Fairly basic mistake for the TT S/ware boffins to make, not like them at all!!!

No this isn't the case. It's not that the software isn't looking for the right ones, there's a much simpler answer. They simply aren't there.
This is TomTom's pathetic "explanation". (Apologies for misleading their customers are not forthcoming)....
Quote: |
You may find that in some areas of the map there will be a lack of POI information for that area. For instance you will see some POI's showing as being in France or Ireland when you search for the nearest POI to your current location. This is because the data for that category is only available in those specified countries.
We are reliant on the map data provided by our provider Teleatlas to provide us with POI data. TeleAtlas compile POI data by asking various sources, governmental organizations and private companies to supply them with information. Unfortunately, in some cases, these organizations were unable to supply TeleAtlas with such information. |
Incidentally, this was the "stock" answer they sent when I contacted them with specific issues with "Mapshare". Note no mention of it at all |

A solution to this issue exists, see the TomTom FAQ here.
The FAQ contains POI’s that are installable through TomTom HOME 2.1. This should help for the POI’s that appear to be missing from the Help Me! Menu for the GO 720’s and TomTom ONE 3rd Editions. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I was alerted to this by TomTom who had spotted this thread. It works fine for HOME 1.6 but as I'm a Mac user I don't have HOME 2.0 so cannot test. _________________ Darren Griffin |

It's good news, but as usual they need to tell their CS people too. That reply I quoted was only from last Friday.
Edit: Just tried that download (as TT have got a new icon they want to use on websites) even though I haven't got my TT with me today.
The first link started up Home and then Home wanted to update (I was still on v2.1.0.92 at work) and I just got a rather cute error message:
Quote: | You have clicked an 'Add to TomTom' button. Unfortunately, TomTom HOME cannot add the item to your TomTom device because there is something wrong with the button. |
Don't think I'll worry until I try it properly with the TT attached!
2nd Edit: I just noticed the intro to that TT page:
Quote: | On a small number of TomTom GO 720/520 and ONE 3rd Edition... |
...i.e. all of them? |

Seems to work ok Andy, adds two files to the Western Europe map folder for each category you download.
gbr dentists.ov2
gbr dentists.inf
gbr doctors.ov2
gbr doctors.inf
gbr pharmacy.ov2
gbr pharmacy.inf
gbr police stations.ov2
gbr police stations.inf
Also noticed that the MapShare ones that I have been adding are still retained and the new ones added to.
Only added the above so far so the other country specific ones should be just as easy to add if needed. _________________ Graham.

I wondering if some clever soul is going to be able to work out how to achieve the "holy grail" of being able to merge 3rd party POIs with the built in ones using a similar method now.... |

Well as for as this new help system on tomtom i hope i never have to depend on it if my vehicle was broken down in some place unknown to me. I gave it a try to see if it would be any help the result being that it put me a good five miles from where i was (for example ) I live in edmund place barry so i pressed where am i and the result was I am on cardiff road near edmund place (not bad) then it went to say in lower penarth which as i said earlier about five or more miles away The point being why have it if given that infomation an emergeny service would be sent to another location i know this is only a petty thing and i would not use it but someone new to satnav might and it could be a matter of life and death |

I think most people here would agree it's just a gimmick to sell more units. Improving the actual Navigation capabilities is a) boring and b) a lot harder to do. |

I must be being particularly thick today. I've updated to the latest versions of Home and the device software, but am having trouble following TomTom's instructions in the link Darren posted.
I connect the device and Home opens (v 2.1.1.106). It tells me there are no updates available, so I go back to the Home Main Menu, which appears to be the screen referred to in the TT instructions "Click one of the links in the table below to add a POIs".
Which link do I click on? If I try 'Add Maps, Traffic, Voices etc', which seems to be the obvious one, and then 'Points of Interest', I only get offered my custom POIs plus a couple of Wi-Fi hotspot ones.
So I'm obviously doing something wrong! Can anyone help please. _________________ Anita

Anita, on the TomTom page I linked to, scroll down and you will find the POI links, click those to download into HOME automatically. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Scroll down to the very bottom of the page and you will see the links to British Doctors, British Dentists etc.... |

I have downloaded the updates.
My nearest Police station is in the wrong place by about a mile, so I have deleted the original, and replaced with correct location.
Thanks for the info.
Wonder if I will get these updated now? |
