Is there anything I can do to get Mapshare POI's working?
I am using TomTom Home 1.6 and get offered all the POI's for download, but they never actually get installed on my 720, as I keep getting offered the same POI's.
I am receiving Mapshare map updates without problem, but the POI's have never worked. |

How do you know they aren't working? Which POIs have you subscribed to receive updates for? Have you browsed your device's map directory? Do you have any CAxxxx.ov2 files in it? How about PAxxxx.ov2 ones? _________________ Tim |

Hi Tim,
I know they are not working because I only get the French emergency POI's, and after I download say 52 Mapshare POI's, the same 52 are offered every time I get offered updates, even 2 minutes later.
I have 58 CAxxxx.ov2 and only 1 PAxxxxx.ov2 file.
Just done an update today, and surprise surprise, the POI's have downloaded again. This time I am being offered 59 POI's. |

Right, OK. The 52 CA POIs are ones you've downloaded and the PA is one where you've edited a POI category in one way or another. For instance, if you have CA7311.ov2, you have downloaded the MapShare POI for Petrol Stations. If you have PA7314.ov2 then it means you've edited the Hotel/motel category somehow (moved a location, renamed one, added one, etc.).
Each category has a 4 digit code, so as long as you remain subscribed to the same 52 categories, you will download the same filenames. This doesn't mean that the information within them is the same.
And just in case you've subscribed to receive updates for every POI category, some of them (around half a dozen) have never had updates from TomTom, as far as I'm aware. _________________ Tim |

Thanks, but that does not explain why some people here have UK Doctors in their POI, and I only have French.
I have added a Doctor myself which does appear as it should though. |

Hi all,
Just deleted all PA and CA files and selected to get only police station update.
New file is CA7322
Checked police poi and still the same!
Is this the police poi file?
If someone has it working on there 520 can they confirm this is right.
can't seem to get any updates.

Done it!
My options in the map share keep deselecting themself and i have to tick them each time.
Great news!
Files prefix CA are from TomTom, files prefixed PA are your changes.
So i had my own file for police stations in the normal ov2 file.
If you then safe your own ov2 file with the same name for the police it put in all my entries for sharing.
So if you have your own ov2 file for say hospitals in your area the file number is PA7321.
If you safe your file as PA7321 it will allow the file to be shared.
Iam going through each file to make a list of each one.
EG
police = PA7322
doctor = PA9373

Which other people have UK doctors? Are you sure they haven't just added them themselves? _________________ Tim |

So do everybody else's. It's a known issue that when you connect to a PC your Mapshare settings are reset and your "Error report" button becomes inactive even though it's still visible.

Hi xda
In your list is a Doctors that I have added in last few days.
This proves that I am sharing with others, but not able to receive POI updates myself from others. |

No.
CAxxxx.ov2 files are INCOMING changes
PAxxxx.ov2 files are OUTGOING changes YOU have made that are ready to be sent.
What Gluey is doing, is rather than manually enter all his existing entries from a user POI category (his own list of police stations) as mapshare corrections, he is renaming that POI file to have the right name so it becomes an OUTGOING correction file.
I'm surprised this works as the CAxxxx and PAxxxx files do not appear to be standard ov2 files (eg they cannot be read in POI Edit), but if they are now appearing in his built-in (i.e. TomTom's own) Police stations POI it may well share as well. |
