|
|
Guys,
First post for me, so apologies if I babble on a bit.
My ICN510 has developed 2 faults. It won't charge up in car and the aerial has become loose. Looks like it may be broken.
My in car charger is hardwired and shows the green power light. This is also the same if I plug it into the cigarette lighter directly.
However, it appears that the unit is not receiving any power. This used to work fine before but has now stopped. The unit won't even charge up from the mains.
Any suggestions or do I go out and buy a new upgraded sat nav unit.
Cheers

Hi Boobster and welcome to the forum.
I was going to ask you to test the power supply but I think you have awnsered your own question.
If it fails to chargeon mains or car adapter then there is cirtainly something wrong with the device. A possable cause would be a loose connection on the power socket on the device which may also give reason for the loose ariel, but unless you know someone who is a dab hand at soldering I just wouldn't bother checking.
I think you've got a new expensive doorstop there! _________________ Dom

I agree with mostdom, but before you recycle it, send Navman Support a message and see if they can make a suggestion. Email them on uksupport@navman-support.com
I always get a quick response but make the email succinct and no multiple questions as you will only get the last one answered (Sorry Navman )

Thanks Guys. I've somehow managed to misplace my mains charger (kids have been playing again!!) so can't determine just yet if it will charge from the mains. Any places you can suggest for getting a cheap one from??
I emailed Navman support and they've said it could possibly be the internal battery not holding charge. Find this odd as it is low with 33% charge left.
I don't want to end up paying too much money to get it fixed if the cheaper option would be to get a new unit. (Preferably one with the same power lead so I can use the hardwired power in the car)
I'll keep on investigating and thanks for your suggestions. It may just end up being an expensive doorstop!! |

All th recent icn and f series use the same adapters, so no change there but I haven't seen the new just released Navamans so should you look there I can't help. _________________ Dom

Thanks Dom. I'll bear that in mind should I have to go down this route. |

iCN510 has 5V 1A charger that is shared with 520, 550 and some older Mio units. Any 5V charger that outputs at least 1A and has a plug that fits should do the trick (as long as polarity is OK, I think inside of the plug should be +).

iCN700 have different chargers (5.5 V I think?). iCN530, N series, S series and all F units use USB charger.

I've seen 510 with very poor battery and it behaved just like old 600 units -- when plugged in you could turn it on, when unplugged it immediately turned off.

Since your unit is hard wired to car plug, I think mostdom's guess is probably correct. |

Well I found the mains charger after purchasing a new one. Missus had put it away in my sock draw of all places!!!
Anyway, I can now confirm that the unit charges when plugged into the mains.
Thing is, the hardwired plug in the car must be faulty. How can I troubleshoot the in car cable to see if power is reaching the 'pin' end?

Car chargers usually have built-in fuses. These things are usually replaceable -- you just have to unscrew the tip of the charger (black plastic disc all the way up front through which metal tip is sticking out). |

Stick your tongue on it . If you can still talk, theres no power there.
Or, purchase a multimeter (really cheaps ones are just as good for this kind of thing and very useful when things don't go) and measure the voltage - should be 5 V (+ or - a bit is OK) |

Well checked all of the in-line fuses. Think power is getting to the cable but it could be a fault with the pin end. Doesn't seem to 'click' in like the one from the mains.
New in car charger me thinks!! |
