|
|
Have just downloaded 7.12 for my One XL and am impressed by the Help Me feature, apart from the fact that it tells me the nearest Police Station, Doctor, Pharmacy, Dentist are in Dublin (I'm in UK). The others (eg Hospital) all give UK locations.
Any ideas on how to rectify this please? |

This is down to the poor quality and coverage of the inbuilt POI files, Map Share will help with the issue, where you can add local locations then "share" the data via TomTom Home and your PC's internet connection, you will also benefit from the updates others around the country have made - Mike |

Clever TomTom - Sell us the kit with an unusable feature and then let us sort it out for them for free.... |

Thanks for the speedy response but I'm not sure whether Mapshare is the answer. The hospitals are all correctly listed starting at 2.6M away but the nearest listed police station is 254M off in a foreign country. Are you saying that the inbuilt POI doesn't include any Police Stations, Doctors, Pharmacies or Dentists in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool and half of Leeds? And we're supposed to put them all in ourselves? |

Yes, and if you want the information available, yes again. _________________ Tim |

That's about the size of it. TomTom's now gone DIY. _________________ Graham.

Okay, next question: Can I populate the "Help Me" lists with the Pocketgps POI for the categories in question? (If so, how?) Or do I have to bypass the "Help Me" function and use the "Navigate to ... POI near you" function instead? |

If you put in your own .ov2 files for police stations, etc., they should be searchable by the Help Me function. The names of the files may be critical, though. _________________ Tim |

Searching for a Pharmacy via "POI near you" produces two sets of POI files, identical spelling but different icons - one "Help Me" icon and the other using the normal POI bitmap.
"Help Me" only accesses its own list. In Ireland.
What do I do to the spelling to make the POI list accessible to "Help Me"? |

Add the locations to your device using the Map Correction/ Correct a map error/ Add missing POI they will then be added to the device correctly and be picked up by the device when using the "Help Me" function - Mike |

I was hoping you weren't going to suggest that; if that's the only way it can be done I'll give it a miss as it'll take too long considering that the information's already accessible in the POI's.
It would be interesting to know how/why they are able to populate the Hospitals list but not the Dentists etc. Pity they can't (or decided not to) as it leaves the "Help Me" function as a rather annoying feature which only half works.
Thanks for your help. |

TomTom are aware of the problem and are "working on it". But the more people who add the locations via MapShare the quicker the process will be. _________________ Tim |

They might be aware of it, but their reply to me when I mentioned it was basically, "Tough, if you don't like it, use third-party POIs".
Then when I moaned about the 720 losing all its warnings for user-POIs, they replied "Tough, we don't support third-party POIs"

What did you expect? they can't even support themselves let alone a user base. _________________ Graham.
