Help please - GPS signal Go 700

I am a new Sat Nav user, just bought a reconditioned Go 700. I am finding it is very slow picking up a gps signal (perhaps 5 mins or more) and constantly loosing it when when its picked up for long periods of time. This is in several different model cars, one a convertible with the roof down also standing in an open area outside of the car it still struggles to pick up a signal.
I have tried the reset button several times, Before I go to the bother of returning it is there anything else I could try please?
