losing voices tomtom 6

Hi, anyone know why I keep losing voices on tomtom 6 on my windows pda? I delet from sd and re install but somtimes it works then another time the voices are gone and shows that no voices are selected! Tried several times. Pulling my hair out, as it did work for for few weeks!

Seriously though, are you using Tom Tom Home to keep your PDA updated?

Have you checked the lock on your SD card?

Any more info you can give regarding your setup would be helpful.

Hello Mike, I do need to gargle after shouting at the phone when tomtom doesnt work properly!!

The funny thing is I put it on micro sd installed it on my new htc touch and it has worked fine for 5 or 6 weeks. But few days ago I noticed there was no voices and when you go to change voices it shows hte people in faint grey instead of colour, and shows no voices selected. If I delete sd and reload it has worked but then second time I run tt there gone again! Frustrating!

I had the same problem - the VOICES folder suddenly became empty & wouldn't let me put anything into it. Fortunately I'd got it backed up on another SD card as the only solution was to delete the folder & replace it with a copy.

So has that worked now? I tried but still no voices! So frustrating as it worked for weeks!

I had same problem with losing voices and had to do a reset to reclaim voices, If i remember it was something to do with the collected.ini file and I have a vague recollection that this may have to be deleted so it can reinstall itself, not entirely sure now so make sure you back up if you decide to do this.

Yes Leebarty just double checked, you need to remove collected.ini file in the Voices folder on the storage card then restart ttn6 and it should reinstall itself, if do search on the forum for collected.ini you will find various posts on it.

hi, just looking in voices but cant see any .ini file they all end in .vif or .chk ?

Should I be looking in voices folder? No .ini file I have about 57 .chk and 57 .vif files ?

You should also have the same number of .bmp files, these are the pictures of the faces that are shown when you select which voice you use, I have just 33 of each but these are just the ones i have decided to have installed, you should also have connected.ini, I believe this reads the folder for installed voices when you start TTN6,mine is date 26/9/07 which is when I last used TTN6 and seems to verify what i said previously, perhaps you should reinstall your voice files to also include the .bmp files. i think most of mine are celeb voices.

I do have celeb voices on pc but they were for tomtom 5.2 on my old phone. Do you think they will still work on tt6? Is the voices file to big to send by e mail? Just thought maybe you could send me the file that you use?

Sending voice files via E-mail is against the forum rules as it breaches copyright, these files have to be payed for - please refrain from requesting or offering such files.

If the files you have were for a Pocket PC based phone they will work with a PPC device or PNA device, only the Smart Phone voice files were made to a slightly different (lower) specification - Mike

sorry, didnt realise the rules. The 5.2 tt was for my spv c600 smartphone, so I take it they will not work on my touch pda? So frustrating re loaded tt6 on card so many times.. still no voices. I only want one voice, dont care which one!!
