Nactec probably has better north american maps and telatlas probably has better Euroepan maps. That's her opinion. I've never owned any tomtom. |
May I ask what it is that your wife thinks is better hardware wide in Garmin products? Garmin are clear leaders in the handheld GPS arena but I would suggest they are not innovators in the PND market segment.
I agree that the perception is that Navteq are better in NA although my experience does not suggest that is the case. My testing over here suggests there is little to separate either provider. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'll be happy to ask her. I can't guarantee I'll get an answer that I will be able to communicate. |

At risk of wandering OT, are you anywhere near Groveland, Ma? Perhaps reply by email / PM if you are! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Groveland is about 50 miles north of me on the other side of Boston. |

In answer to the question above, her response was that Garmin has an extremely broad product line and that they make all of their equipment in their own factories and so have better control over manufacturing than tomtom which outsources manufacturing.
To be honest, I don't find the answer that convincing. It could make Garmin higher quality. It's not evidence that they are. The evidence would be lack of defects, durability, etc.. |
