If you have a Hard drive on your TomTom, when you switch it on it will boot up from the hard drive, unless you have an SD card in, then it will boot from that(IT can't boot/read from both). If you don't have a hard drive, It will boot from the SD card. Additional navigation voices have to go into the voices folder, or the TomTom won't see them. If you buy a new map, and put it on a new card, you have to download the TomTom softwear too, onto the new card, or TomTom won't see the map. If the hard drive is full, or the SD card is full, copy everything using WINDOWS EXPLORER onto your computer, then onto a bigger SD card. To do that, look here.

Maps cost money, the actual software the device uses and associated updates are free though - Mike |

sorry to hijack the thread but I had a similar question.
I recently bought a One V2 (Europe). The one I bought does not come with a SD card. Rather all software and UK + Western EU maps are all loaded on internal memory.
I have decided to add a couple more things to the One, but will need a SD card. I bought a 2GB SD card, inserted it and it comes up with an error (with cross display) on the unit.
If I have read the above correctly, I need to copy the entire contents of the internal memory onto the SD card and remove everything from the internal memory (internal + SD card dont work together).
Can someone confirm whether this is infact the case?
Many thanks in advance. |

You DO need to copy the entire memory contents onto the SD card.
You DO NOT need (or want) to delete them from the memory.
If you switch on with the card inserted, it will boot from that, but if you want to go back to where you were before, just take out the card and it will boot from memory. |
