Ok this December - January im off to AUS/NZ with the family for the trip of a lifetime. Im looking for Handheld GPS & Maps to cover us for
1. Boat Charter around the whitsunday islands (require full NAV Charts)
2. Car navigation from Brisban - Sydney
3. Car Navigation in NZ
Looking for any advice on what charts/maps to purchase for a Garmin 60CSX which ive decided is the unit for the Job. Also i will be taking a Sony Vaio to hook upto.
Also require advice on buying the Garmin 60CSX.
Looked on the net and various options open for purchase of 60CSX, can get from UK (expensive), US (cheap, but USbase mapsloaded) or Aus(cheap, AUS base maps, cheap, but may take a while to come).
Any recomendations on where to buy from?
1. Do i need to buy from Aus for the unit to work down under?
2. Are the basemaps important if im buying others to use?
3. does anyone bother to much about the basemaps?
4. if i buy non UK model do i still get support over here
Sorry for all the Q's, any advice much welcomed. _________________ Thanks
Thanks for that abuchan, i take it you got a UK version then?
Did you consider a US version at all? can get these for around £200 but come with US basemaps. Im just wondering how useful the UK basemaops are does anyone use them or do people tend to buy others to use on a memory chip?
Any recomendations of where to buy maps for the unit?

Thanks Allycat for your help.
Was just trying to reach as many as possible with the multiple post only 4 of them so not sure why everyone is getting so down about it.
This forum is so comprehensive with all its sub directories im guessing there are quite alot of people that dont look at all sections of it. Obviously there are those like your self who are very keen on the subject and do, but surely its a case of just read that and helped move onto the next.

Hi Neil,
The reason is because life is too short for different (or the same) people to waste their time posting similar answers in different threads. Personally, I might have spent longer "researching" your questions if I hadn't wasted time reading and cross-referencing the identical posts.
As it is, my answers, here and here, have got locked out of the main thread. By posting questions in a form that are dubiously relevant to a topic (e.g. Maps for a Garmin GPS in Fugawi and Ozi threads) you gave the impression (I don't know if it's true) that you didn't understand the basics.
Cheers, Alan.
PS: Note that the retailer referred to in my answer is (currently) actually cheaper than Ebuyer! _________________ Garmin GPS72H/76/60/45, Etrex H, Mapsource v6.5.
