Ah, OK - I understand what you are saying. I have to say, it's not something I've ever heard of before, so it is possible you are correct. It's certainly worth a try. _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

In that case, I would create one - using Notepad. It should contain the 25 digit Unlock code (with any dashes etc) removed. The finished file will probably be 27 bytes(CR/LF added by Notepad).
I obviously overlooked the fact that the 350 comes with more maps than I am used to seeing Does each region have its own 25 digit unlock code - or is there a Master code for the whole map set.
(ie does GMAPPROM.UNL end up with a long list of codes in it ?) |
I've just checked my UNL file and it has a 175 character in it. I guess the unlock code I was given unlocks a number of different countries.
Also my original unlock code is stored in the GarminDevice.XML file. |

I have tried making the .unl file as you mention. I found the 25 digit code in the GarminDevice.XML file, as Adrian says and pasted it into notepad. Saved the text document as gmapprom.unl and copied it to the Garmin folder on the nuvi....
But, sorry guys... problem still the same. Have tried another hard reset but no good! |

I don't think that's the right code is it?
I noticed my Nüvi 310's GarminDevice.XML has a section containing a 25 digit code- but it's not the one that corresponds to the map unlock code.
You need the one that was on the original Yellow slip (or in my case generated online) |

Just found the yellow paper in the original packaging....but 25 digit code is the same as that in the .xml file. Have tried making the .unl file again in case I made a mistake, but still no good
The nuvi doesn't give any message about needing an unlock code, just says 'no map data is available'. But the map is there on the nuvis drive, it just doesn't seem to recognise it anymore. |

Hmm, my .unl file contains other stuff as well - I'm not sure you can simply put the correct code into the .unl file and expect it to work. It might be different, as mine was created with MapSource of course. _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

Hi Dan,
Have you registered on my Garmin? There should also be an unlock code there. It should be the same as you're yellow slip but you never know. The other thing you could try is upgrading to v9 maps. I've noticed that the upgrade replaced my V8 with v9 maps (hardly surprising as both are over 1 Gig and the Nuvi only has 2Gb memory).
If you have then it'll cost about £40 to upgrade, but I think Garmin will charge you around £30 to look at the problem anyway. If you haven't registered yet you might get a free upgrade. |

Have taken Adrians advice and ordered an update to version9 DVD from Garmin. Hope this solves my (self inflicted!) problem.
Thanks to everyone for all your helpful advice and suggestions, much appreciated.
Kind regards to you all. |
