Sorry if this has already been asked but there are now lots of posts on the 720. How do I add a new bypass and A road that is not on the maps? Does the device trace your route having pressed (A) or can it be drawn freehand? I am a bit baffled. |

AFAIK you cannot add new roads. |

Cheers mate, so we just mark them and then send them in to TomTom, who then do nothing about it!! |

You got it in 1
I sent an updated roundabout over 2 years ago and it still doesn't appear _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2699lmt

IIRC TomTom didn't own the Map Company (TeleAtlas) like it does now. So you pass the info to TomTom they pass it to TeleAtlas who are supposed to update the map but maybe didn't. So maybe not all TomToms fault.
However TomTom now own TeleAtlas and changes can be made quicker.
MapShare is new so it's difficult to gauge how quickly changes will be made with respects to new roads and roundabouts.
Once changes are submitted you have a variety of options regarding downloading changes to the maps from other users.
Finally i suggest you think about the complexity and scale of the tasks regarding mapping the roads in the UK, then Europe and then the US. Mistakes will be made but it appears TomTom is moving in the right direction by giving you better tools to report and make changes. |

I thought so, but it looks like the final stages aren't yet complete.
However, either way, this doesn't stop the MapShare function from working. In the past changes were submitted to the map makers and the changes weren't released until the next map was released. Why some changes didn't make it, who knows? There is a lot of data to crunch. However MapShare will make it easier for you to make you own amendments and, obviously, share them with others whilst also receiving theirs. Instead of waiting 18 months for the next set of maps you could get most amendments within a few days (subject to verification).
Hopefully it'll work well and Garmin et al will come up with their own versions. |

Mapshare does work. I've submitted a number of fixes using Mapshare and then erased and restored my 720 back to the state it was in when I bought it. I set it to only get updates from trusted sources and from TomTom and some of the first corrections I made were on the map after I downloaded the updates via HOME. I'm sure part of it has to do with the fact that there are only a few 720 owners in the US so they're not getting many other corrections but it does work. Things like adding the road geometry from roundabouts or new roads will take longer to get resolved but Mapshare clearly does have potential. Also keep in mind that the more people that report the same error the more likely it is that it will get fixed. _________________ Creator of the Bright & Vivid scheme available through HOME.

I have submitted a new road correction, it was the new flyover on the A419 just north of the M4. It was a straight road, so easy, but I entered each carriageway as separate single direction roads.

So how do I get that one then? I do use that new flyover. TT Home reports no new updates. Do a lot of people need to report it?
I just submitted a change to the B3270/A327 junction in Reading which has been wrong for a long time. It was right on the Navteq maps (which were pants for navigation) but have always been wrong on the teleatlas ones.

I think you need to use TT Home 1.6 that came on the CD with your 520/720 to get mapshare updates.
Forget TT Home v2 as it's useless, and no traffic alerts if you have a traffic sub.
I get mapshare updates everyday on my 720.
Don't forget to enable mapshare on your 520/720 in the Map Corrections menu. |
