I wonder if Navman are looking at the Tom Tom upgrade....

Now THAT is what I call a sensible approach to a version upgrade, impressive feature list (imho), decent price and a deal for people who have made a recent purchase.

Makes the thought of a £140-£180 upgrade (unless it's changed without me spotting it) not seem too attractive.

Interesting times ahead methinks!

What probably makes it even worst, is that you can buy the full TTNav3 software (admittedly for just one country) for £115 including VAT from Global Positioning Systems.

So if you only want to travel one country, and already have the hardware then TTNav3 may look inviting!

Regards,

I will concur with that!

If SmartSTv3 is released in september with POI integration (not quite sure what that means) and is priced any more than £35 for an upgrade or £120 for the full product then TomTom will get another customer.

I only wish I had researched TomTom more thoroughly before jumping in when I saw the new v2 had been released.

Ahh well!

I still think that Navman have the best hardware, but the change they brought with the V2 software has really left me feeling a little let down.

Fighting for the upgrade was one thing, but seeing the faults (I'm still back on V1 at the moment), and the cost of the Tom Tom software really makes me think that tom tom have the better ideas in the software department. I think things 'may' have been better if they'd stuck with Navtech, which do seem to have a better set of geodata.

(note, all of the above is more personal feeling that real evidence, who knows we may find Tom Tom has a neat set of bugs too ;) )

In the end, I think one of the real things I'll be considering in future is the real cost of owning some of this stuff, the last couple of updates from TomTom seem to be fairly consistant on price, which is good...
If I want to keep upto date on maps etc, I can see myself heading for Tomtom at some point.
