hi all i am new to all of this gps stuff so be gentle and patient with me please.
i was given a navman icn 610 by a friend earlier this year for a bargain price. i bought the latest european st 2005 map package from navman and loaded it all up and i found it a very good reliable unit.
this week my curiosity got the better of me and i bought an icn 650 from ebay. got it for a good price and it worked well until i started to fiddle with it!!!
it came with the V3 maps installed. i went onto the navman website and installed a software update, then tried to load my st 2005 maps on it. keep getting error messages saying wrong product code etc and message on 650 screen saying no map data.
navman have told me that i can only use my maps that i paid £100 for once to prevent fraud and i now have a icn 650 which wont work. i know that was long winded but is there anyway i can either restore it to the original settings or get by the product codes and install my newer maps. oh before i forget i dont have the original maps that the 650 would have had when it left the factory.
You won't get codes or a hack here as it's against the forum rules, and unsless someone proves me wrong I think you'll have to go and buy a new set of maps and software for your new device.
I'm a little suprised you bought a GPS on ebay without documentation or CD's, but one way or another we all learn.
The only option to reinstall software onto Navmans is the Update Software option, however this will install the previously updated bit of sowtware from that computer, which for you was the duff software, this won't of course updated the maps.
Like I said, Expensive paperweight, doorstop, mugmat, table leg support.... _________________ Dom

thanks for your reply, i think you have just confirmed what i feared!!! i bought it in perfect working order with the whole of europe loaded onto it. it has only gone wrong since i fiddled with it, which was through ignorance, i didn't realise that maps could only be used once or else i would have left it alone.
is there any way of making the maps work as when you connect it to the computer all the maps are supposidly installed on the sat nav but the sat nav says no map data when you turn it on.
as you say going to be an expensive paperweight unless somebody can come up with a good idea.
All is not lost- however Navman is within there right to insist that you pay, each time, for the new maps before you can use them.
What to do about it. Assuming you are not prepared to pay for new maps for you iCN650,
1)The registration information is stored by Navman, and can be retrieved using the tools menu on Smart ST. I can't be certain, but you should be able to do this on any version of Smart ST.
2) After doing the above, you would need to load the appliaction and maps from the same version of CD's as the keys are for. Navman should be able to help you out here, but I expect an iCN650 would be Version 3 software and maps, which you already have the CD's for.
Whatever happens, all that is wrong is software on the iCN650 is "corrupt", Navman technical support should be able to get you going.
And the moral of you story "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" - good luck
