|

I've been holding off buying Tomtom as I new v3 was due. However, I want both USA & Europe maps and was planning on buying the US software & maps and then the Europe maps.
I read on the Tomtom site that v3 will not read v2 maps and it looks like v3 is not available for the US. In fact the US software & maps has disapered from tomtom.com.
Does anyone know if v3 is to be released in the US soon? Alternatively if I buy the US software and maps & europe v2 maps now would I get all of them upgraded to v3 for nothing at some point?
I'm feeling a bit stumped at this point as I really dont want to have to shell out for a v2 USA version and a v3 europe (software + europe maps)version sepeately as this pushes the cost up significantly.

No, it's still there. You just have to use the 'switch languages' option.

But I can understand your problem. When they launched 3 they said it was a free upgrade beyond a set date. Without knowing what that date would be for the USA software you might be taking a risk. |

... It can't be long though. I've just noticed that TT Go is in the USA product listing but without a price. If you look at the 'click to enlarge' link you can see that the maps shown on the TT Go are USA maps. |

I would think that TTN3 would be released in the US either at the same time or shortly after. The program is the same, it's just whether TomTom have updated maps to support North America. Actually thinking about it, maybe it might be a little delay. |

I've just found on the USA section of tomtom.com that they expect V3 to be released there in May. That still leaves me unsure if I buy V2 USA now as to whether this will entitle me to V3 software upgrade and V3 USA maps.
I'm guessing I'll be OK to get the V3 software as a "European user" but the USA maps is less clear. Logic says I should be OK but.....!!!
Anyone know?

Now I'm confused. I decided to risk it and buy Tomtom USA. I've tried several suppliers and cant find any with stock. I spoke to a helpfull chap at PDAMods who said that the USA V2 version was discontinued and that they had been told by Tomtom that V3 USA and European maps would be distrubuted next week (they already have V3 UK version in stock). He did add however, that Tomtoms information had been a little shakey of late!
This contradicts Tomtoms site which says that the USA version is due in May. Does anyone have any firm info on the USA version availability? I guess it's possible that they could release the USA version in Europe before it's available in the US!
Thanks

The may timeframe looks more realistic. You may recall that the US version of TomTom 2 just recently was enhanced with new map data.
But yes, the product lifecycle policy is certainly anything but consistent. _________________ Lutz
