|
|
Can anybody help? The GPS screen for TomTom shows activity and I have 4-6 red bars - but it keeps telling me 'GPS Position Unreliable' so therefore will not do the business!
I know the NavMan 3000 is OK in my car because co-pilot works
I have an iPAQ 3870 with ROM 2.20, iPAQ Navigation System which I believe is a NavMan 3000 with Pocket Co-Pilot and Tom-Tom v2 with the v2.24 update. The map data for Co-Pilot is on a 128MB CF card and the TomTom data is on an IBM 1MB MicroDisk.
Thanks! |

When you get a fix, are you actually on-road? I ask because TomTom will say this if you are sta in your garden or off the highway! As soon as you move onto a road the message should go way. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Wow - you guys are quick! Thanks for the reply
Nope, it stays here all the time. I drove from Lancashire to Warwickshire and back again today and it was the same both ways!
One additional piece of information if it helps - when I was driving the signal seemed to come and go a lot. i.e the red status bars would often vanish and the co-ordinates would disappear |

Hmm, and CoPilot works OK using the same jacket in the same car? Had you not stated that I would have guessed that the signal was being degraded somehow either because of a anti-glare coating on the windscreen or similar.
Is CoPilot still installed on the PPC? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Yes, co-pilot works fine in the same sleeve/car and is still installed. Any suuggestions? If it is to remove co-pilot are there any files (apart from the Navman serial driver) that I will need to keep?
Your help is much appreciated |

Which driver are you using in TomTom ?
If CoPilot works fine on the same Pocket PC with the sleeve, then I'd hazard a guess that it's a driver issue in TomTom.
Is it actually the Navman 3000 sleeve you are running, or is it the re-badged CoPilot sleeve ? Reason why I ask is the CoPilot sleeve is often locked to the software, and it maybe that TomTom won't be able to detect the sleeve. I don't think this is the case, but I haven't had a CoPilot sleeve to test this with. |

On the About... screen it reads TomTom Navigator 2.24 (361) Is that what you mean? I have also installed the NavMan 3.1.6 serial driver
The sleeve says "iPAQ Navigation System" down the side edge.
Thanks for your patience! |

If you have more than one map installed, just go to switch map, then choose another map, click OK, then choose the first map, click Ok, then try to navigate to any address.... that trick worked with me, don't ask me how I figured this out. |

As this is the iNS Jacket then Navman's Serial Driver is not the correct one. You have to use the Alk version which can be found in the GPS Jacket folder on your Compaq iNS CD or can downloaded here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hey, thtanks for this.
As you can see, I do have it working now using the NavMan driver - but even though it seems to 'find' sats quicker than Co-Pilot it takes a while before TomTom accepts that the GPS position is reliable.
Will this driver improve things on that front - or should I follow that age-old nugget of wisdom - "If it 'aint brokes, don't fix it!"
Thanks |

No harm in trying the driver that was designed for that jacket _________________ Darren Griffin |

Embarassed to say that I can't remember how to install a .CAB file onto the iPAQ! (Thought I just copied it over but that is obviously wrong!)
Can you help please |

You were almost there! copy it over then locate it via File Explorer on the iPAQ and double-tap to launch the installer, it will automatically delete after install _________________ Darren Griffin |
