Don't get me wrong, I believe this software has some very good features. The focus on speech and driver views (rather than on detailed maps while driving) is laudable. There are things that should be a priority to fix, where basic functionality is impaired. There are also a few new features, or tweaks to existing feature that would improve the product.
1. Currently the software takes paths across roads that cannot be crossed due to turn restrictions. This along with other basic errors in routing logic, or the quality of the maps provided MUST be fixed.
2. Map resolution and accuracy is poor, particularly for major interchanges - (Navteq mapping, Brisbane, Australia).
3. Compounding this accuracy problem, route drawing does NOT faithfully follow the map detail. It seems to plot much lower resolution vectors (perhaps to be speed optimised?) This seriously needs to be improved, so there is a 100% match.
4. Cannot select slip road intersections to create a waypoint, either on map, or using the intersection feature.
5. Traffic Lights and Roundabout Symbols Marked on Map would assist users relating to the map.
6. When 'Route Over' is selected, it entirely draws over the road, obscuring helpful details. If the route highlighting scaled in thickness related to the road (so that it was painted 'inside the lines' so to speak), or utilised transparency (user controllable), it would be better.
Perhaps if this graphic routinue were to be updated, it might provide visual clues for routes that double back and therefore plot twice on the same section of road or intersect, so that users can see what is actually going on. Note that if the original road outlines are retained, and "z" painting order is honoured, this issue may take care of itself to some extent.
7. The ability to manually insert instructions such as u-turn (perhaps associate the instruction with a waypoint) would be extremely helpful.
8. The ability to plot all road names (while in planning mode) would be helpful. I realise that this would be too much visual clutter while on the move.
I could put up with all that you have mentioned if they would update their database. Here in the U.S.A. the roadmaps are out of date (at least four years out of date).
I would venture to guess that only 1/2 the roads in my town are actually in the database (our population is around 80 thousand). Also, there are POI's listed in locations that NEVER housed what is mentioned in the database. There is, for example, supposed to be a restaurant about a mile from me on a corner that is a farmer's field.
I had hoped that database updates would be forthcoming but I am assured that it will only be the case by purchasing the next version of the software. That is shameful if you ask me.
