I'm after a map for my holiday in Florida. Will my streetpilot i3 work over there? If so, where can I find this map? Cheers |

Just got back from Florida and used my i3 to get around. It was a godsend and didn't let me down once. I loaded it with Metroguide North America maps v7 (cheaper than City Navigator but not routable), and made them routable and indexed using the metrowhizz software avilable through the forum on this site. |

How do you mean its not routable?
Is metrowhizz a 3rd party application then?

If it's routable then you can enter a destination and the unit will guide you there. Metroguide maps don't allow you to transfer the routing capability to your GPS unit, which is probably why they are cheaper than City Navigator which does. Metroguide maps are also unlocked so you don't have to buy a code from Garmin. You can make them routable in 2 ways, the hard is to use img2gps and sendmap software and the easy way is the Metrowhizz wizard, which is simple to use. All these are 3rd party software easily available. So you just need to buy/obtain a copy of Metroguide North America (try ebay) |

Thanks for all your help. I'll upload the maps on the weekend and see how it all goes. is there anyway you can test it to make sure it will work on my hols before I go or can't you really go wrong if you upload the whole of the America maps? |

You will have to set a location in USA as your starting (home) point and then simulate a route from there. This will show that the autorouting and indexing is working. Also once the maps are loaded, zoom out and you should see square boxes around the map tiles that have been uploaded to the unit. |

I was just wondering the other day about this as I'm off to Florida in December. Is it worth buying an i3 in the USA for use on holiday ? They are currently $188 from Walmart http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4016515 but I think a pc is needed as the maps dont appear to be preloaded on to the i3. Alternatively if someone is going there soon and wants to get me one in advance I'm sure we could come to an arrangement.
Or perhaps a few bods from this forum might like to get to get together and come up with a scheme where we take it in turn to use it on holiday then sell it on to the next holidaymaker. Any suggestions ?
Cheers,

Hi,
I've just bought the USA Micro SD card from Provantage (($140 including delivery). Would be willing to let you hire it come December. _________________ Garmin I3 October 2006
