OK, as a citizen of the UK who pays road tax (well the wife does) (but with my money) I am slightly peeved at having to pay more to use certain roads.
On the other hand I don't have a big problem with road charging as long as the road tax is scrapped.
Nearly every other European country has some form of road charging, and people seem quite happy to pay that (even Brits).
It's worse for HGV's etc they pay a huge amount to travel abroad.
What do visitors to our green and pleasant land pay? Nada, zilch, zero.
And to be honest I think our motorways are in far better condition than say France, I'm not talking about the motorway network, I mean the actual condition of the road, and at least you can fit something wider than a moped on our hard shoulders!
So I think we should either bring in a road toll system in the UK that EVERYONE pays or we should be exempt from paying foreign tolls.
Yea right, thats gonna happen _________________ Tomtom Go730T

1. The Government didn't introduce congestion charging. It was the Mayor of London.
2. Classy, your wife doesn't pay road tax, she pays vehicle excise duty.
Those points notwithstanding, I agree with both of you in general terms. _________________ Tim |

(If you're going to Lille use the A26, there is a toll but the few quid is worth it. It adds about 10 minutes to the journey).
It's not often you see broken down cars on their hard shoulders, unless it has a GB plate, and if you spot the odd old Renault car or van, apparently broken down, there's a good chance it's the Gendarmes waiting to get a picture. :P _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Fair comment but when you come across a motor half on the hard shoulder and half on the inside lane with no lights in the dead of night, trust me the noise your nether regions make is nothing short of a symphony _________________ Tomtom Go730T

Well, I'll try, but I have to be honest - I don't expect to reach the age of 118. _________________ Dennis
