No, I'm no expert. Far from it. But being a photographer I've had to look into SD card performance quite a bit in the past, and I know that you can't always trust what you read on the box.

A faster card will undoubtedly improve performance in certain devices, but my original question was asking whether a faster card makes any difference in a TomTom ONE - and all I was saying was that I couldn't find any evidence to suggest that it did.

As for the Sandisk Extreme III - I can definitely say that it performs extremely well in a Nikon SLR camera. Wink I'm just not so sure how well it stands up against the competition in other applications. Like I said before, in my opinion it's a factor of the device in which you're using it as much as anything else.

While I agree with the sentiment that you will not see any improvement in performance once the SD card is quicker than the navigation device's interface - This is not the only thing to be considered.

I believe that it is sensible to keep a backup of your SD card (or even stupid not to?), and that for this operation it is probably easier (and safer?) to remove the card from the PDA (or what ever device you use) and place it into a card reader (internal or external) which typically have far faster interfaces that those found on the navigation device, and the increase in speed is often a factor of many, rather than only a few % which may be experienced in the navigation device.
