I see that Livingstone have posted the following message on their website
"Livingstone finally found Stanley and they've gone off together into the sunset
With increasing numbers and varieties of models of Pocket PCs (and cellphones using the same technology), and Mr Gates' propensity to develop new versions of the PPC Operating System which are not backwards compatible, it has proven impossible for us to keep up.
Accordingly and with much much regret, we have closed Livingstone and removed all products.
Thank you for your support in the past; as to future good-value-for-money mapping products for your Pocket PC, we suggest you contact either the UK's Ordnance Survey or London's A-Z Geographers directly and ask them for assistance."
When driving in New Zealand recently I used their topographical maps of the North and South Islands on my iPAQ/BTGPS and found them very useful. On returning I had intended to offer a few suggestions for improvements but alas there is no chance now |

Oldie,
please excuse my ignorance - what's the story behind this statement? Is that from a book or a movie? _________________ Lutz

Hi Lutz,
Have you ever heard the quote “Doctor Livingstone, I presume?”?
All will be revealed if you visit this link.

I see. But there's a good part of whacky humour involved as well, right? It was Stanley who found Livingston, and not the other way round... _________________ Lutz

Lutz,
I can only assume that the Livingstone Guides people got it the wrong way round because they were so upset to be closing down
Pity that they have gone; their topographical maps of NZ were very good.

I am sorry to see them go as well. When I first found them, I can't remember exactly when, they were the only company doing topographical small maps of the UK. You could buy one of them for about a fiver if I remember correctly. After a few months I couldn't get their program to work on my iPaq and so I started to download and geo-reference my own maps. I eventually went with Fugawi which I think is excellent and cheap. |
