Does anyone know if any Tom Tom or if not any other Sat Nav devices covers the Isle of Man. The reason I ask is that my Ipaq Tom Tom gave up the ghost and I want to buy another Tom Tom but will be working on the Isle of Man in a couple of months |

Hi trollmaster1,
to the forum!
If you like (or are used to) TomTom units then the TomTom ONE NE Europe unit is one to consider as it uses Navteq map data instead of Tele Atlas. The TomTom ONE NE Europe unit does cover the Isle of Man.

Hi thanks for the reply, when you say Tom Tom One NE what is the NE ( Please excuse my ignorance ) stand for. I was looking at the 710 as this has the maps of europe on.
Hopefully the battery on the Tom Toms last longer than the ipaq I used to have
Thanks |

Sorry to add another question, but how do you know when you go into a shop that the TomTom isn't using Teleatlas mapping ? Is it that the ttONE only comes with Teleatlas

The One New Edition Europe and the Rider are the ONLY TT's that use Navteq. All the others use teleatlas. |

If you have a Tom Tom ONE UK (new edition V2) can you put maps from the Tom Tom ONE Europe version onto it? Where can I get them from if so? Thanks. |

John, to try to answer this (and parts from your other post)
As far as I know, the units that used Navteq maps were also designed to be able to use TeleAtlas ones, but not the other way round. So Navteq maps won't work on a TeleAtlas based machine.
There were reports of a way round it, but as you cannot buy Navteq maps for TomToms from anywhere, it's a bit pointless unless you have both types of TomTom already.
TomTom's recent map updates for ALL models are TeleAtlas based, and they have now ended their contract with Navteq, so there will not even be the Navteq versions that they had said were coming.
On the point you raised elsewhere:

A bit of misreprestation there!!! |
It isn't actually!
Quote: | The Isle of Man is an ancient Kingdom and is not part of the United Kingdom. It is a Dependency of the British Crown but with a high degree of internal autonomy being responsible for its own internal legislation and tax matters.
Residents do not vote in the UK Parliamentary elections and do not, therefore, elect an MP to Westminster. |
It isn't part of the European Union either!

Although I agree with your real point wholeheartedly: TomTom really should have made it a "British Isles" map! |

Thanks for your full answer there Andy .
So, the Isle of Man is in the British Isles, so British, but not in the United Kingdom, but a British Crown Dependancy but not in Europe. But the Europe maps have the Isle of Man on
Now I am told I won't need a passport when I go there but if they ask me for one I'll put a pair of underpants on my head, stick two pencils up my nose and sit in the corner saying "Wibble.." repeatedly. Because it will make as much sense
There's nothing like a bit of history to amaze.
Anyway, bang goes my plan to sue their bottoms off for not supplying me with a full "UK" map!
Incidentally and slightly off topic... Surely the machine is the same (ONE UK and +ONE Europe) so swapping the flash cards (or backup) should work? Or is there a firmware or other EEPROM on the unit that stops it? |

What Andy said is that it's not part of the European Union, not that it's not part of Europe. Two very different things! _________________ Anita
