Hi westewoo, thanks for doing that and well done on the rest. I will definitely be interested to see what improvement this update makes to the Pogo. Does it add or change any of the features, maps, etc or has it just ironed out the glitches?
hi guys. the new version will allow, any firmware mods to be installed when you do a database update. i will be intresting to here off bbq. and a few others, to here what other diffrences they find with the drive, as after daily consoltation with origins r+d department, they are determined to make this the best machine on the market, and i get little things to try nearly daily, so i dont know were the other users are up to with there features.
i am sertinly glad i had i last night, or i would be waiting for the postie to bring me a n.i.p. :D

Hi westewoo
Looks like another firmware upgrade!! Date 25-April 2007. What is new in this one? Is "Low Battery Warning" one of the new features, as I just had that come up on my unit whilst playing around with it.
I would like to know what else has changed.
Thanks

Hi BB,
What benefits have you found from the last two firmware downloads.
I did buy a Micro Pilot but to be brutally honest compared with the Pogo's visual and audible alerts its rubbish so I given it to the wife. So back to searching again.

Hi nuttynurse
Well, I've found a "low battery" warning (and it works). However, I am finding it difficult to compare my current firmware with the problematic firmware of old due to the fact I am running the re-radiating gps antenna. I really need to turn that off (buried behind the car's bulkhead) to conduct a more thorough comparison.
However, I still have rock solid mapping (no flying over field effect), and GPS signal lock is now excellent (but thats again down to re-rad). Lets just say it hasn't got worse. Have also not had any software crashes either (although I didn't have that many to begin with). I am hoping Origin are tweaking the SatNav side of things, especially automatic re-routing. I have still had the unit telling me to go "around the houses" to get back on a faster path for over 5-6 minutes (a problem I believe you found in the unit). Again I will try and test this next week. I have a nice trip to London E11 tomorrow.
As for your search, you may well be interested in the Cheetah GPS Mirror that is due for release very very soon! I had the fortunate oportunity to try a pre-production of it and I found it very very good. Quick Sat Lock, never lost signal during use, lovely mirror view all around side and rear of car, plus the unit covers mobile cameras. You can also (with additional cheetah accessories) get Sentinel and LPP warning alerts routed through to the mirror. It then becomes an all-in-one alert centre. The best thing about the mirror?? Just clips over you normal RVM, and can be left in the vehicle. It does NOT draw attention to itself (unlike the DS). Maybe this will be your replacement.

Hi BB,
Thanks for that. I will look at the 'Cheetah Mirror' as you suggest. Its certainly a pain in the ,old rear view, setting these GPS units up everytime you go out in the car and then having to take them with you everytime you get out again. I have seen some recent mention of these between you and jaskel, I think, without looking but as yet haven't considered this. Thanks again.

This one for westewoo really.
I've noticed that since the first April firmware upgrade, the road names (IE M1, A1, M25 etc etc) no longer show up! The rectangular box is there, but no road name within the box, even when zoomed in! The box is empty.

hi bbq. what mode were you using? you are here or nave mode, and which box was empty, top or bottom? have you now got the qwerty keyboard? if so what do you think? all the best. westewoo

Hi westewoo
OK, this is in Navigation mode - haven't tested "You Are Here" mode. The boxes I refer too are the very small ones that indicate the road number, and are found on the map itself. Either blue (for motorway's), green for major roads and are normally in the centre of the road on the map. I am not referring to any of the information sections of the display.
(These boxes can also be found on road atlas's too)
Hope that clarifys things.

hi. i have passed your comments on to the r+d department at origin, and they have looked at the forum, and invite comments and remarks. the lack of numbers in the boxes, they are now aware of and are trying to sort out, i am due another update at the end of the week with a few other bits and bobs to try, so hopefully the road numbers should be sorted then, so i will keep you posted.
i have been asked to forward this email to the forum.
"Origin are working on items listed and they value our feedback - Origin
do not ignore thier customers and would like the Pogo to be the best.
Feed back received by Origin via the forum and other sources are
considered. Mapping is also being looked into."

Hi westewoo,
Do you know why the 'Alert' is taking so long to come to the market? Presumably its not an issue about the database as this is already on the Pogo Drive and its obviously not about he mapping. On the face of it you would think it the easier development of the two units, wouldn't you? Perhaps you could ask Origin why its taking longer to develop or bring to market.

Hi westewoo
If Origin can also get the recalculation logic sorted, and include Mobile camera sites in its camera database, then they *will* have an excellent little unit.
An "Itineray" facility (like TomTom units) would also be handy.
Thanks
