We seriously need an edit function on this forum Why not implement an edit system that only works for 5 minutes after the post has been made so problems like above can be fixed.
By the way here is the previous link fixed. |

I already have hence the bit about being able to edit for 5 minutes only after the post has been made, that way the jist (sp!) of the thread still wont be lost. |

None of which have ever explained why the board software can't be updated to a version where edits CAN be made safely.
It's not as if the site is being run on a shoestring any more... |

I don't think that an update is even required, I think it's just a case of admin enabling the function in their control panel!
It doesn't make sense NOT to have the ability to edit. _________________ Tomtom Go730T

The team are currently discussing this recurring issue.
Unfortunately, updating the board software is problematical and hugely time consuming - we have done this before and, because of the size, complexity and legacies of the site it gave us major headaches _________________ Robert Brady |

Although we have concerns, we have decided to allow user editing on many of the forums for a test period. You'll be able to spot which ones by the edit button once you are logged in :o
Can we ask all our trusted regulars to monitor and report what is happening very carefully.
Abuses of edit privileges will lead to the disablement of the function pending further discussion.
Individuals who abuse the facility will have their memberships revoked and we reserve the right to reinstate original text before edits where possible.
...and don't forget that the 'Preview' button is your friend
.....Testing edit facility to see if it is flagged..... _________________ Robert Brady

Just typical - I go out for the day's work and I come back to find we've got pEditing. Is there any chance we could get pSpellchecker and pGrandmachecker - the overwhelming majority want it. _________________ Dennis

Out of interest, I edited that to alter a capital M to lower case, but there's no indication that I have done an edit. Wouldn't it be wise to have an "edited" indicator? (which might be there and I haven't seen cos' that would be a bit like RTFM-ing). _________________ Dennis

IIRC the 'last edited xxxxxx' comment is only inserted if you edit a post that has since had replies. If you make a post, spot an error and maje an edit before another user replies then the 'last edited' comment does not get added. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Yes, that it a glitch that we are aware of
There does seem to be a time delay before the edit is reported. MikeB has flagged this up. We'll see what happens. _________________ Robert Brady |
