After updating my speed camera database using the free download from Alk i noticed that when browsing the map that the speed camera icons wouldn't display, the only notification i got was when the yellow box popped up whilst driving.
I have found the solution, using the file explorer on your PPC (or through active-sync) go to My device/program files/Copilot pocket
This will open the folder with all the POI icons, scroll down and look for the safety camera files, there will be two, one named 'safetycam.bmp' and one named 'safetycamera.bmp
Delete which ever of these is the oldest (check the date), your icons should now be back on.
I have done this and it now works a treat.
Make a copy of the file you are deleting just in case. |

Hi wezlyons.
Do you know what if any detrimental efffect deleting the older file has on the operation of the copilot software?
I'm a bit worried about deleting a file to show a bmp in the map browse section of the software that may well be very much needed elsewhere. _________________ The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. |

Mine has worked perfectly so far.
Im presuming that the two files where conflicting with each other hence neither of them showing up on the map when both present.
As soon as i deleted the older of the two the icon for speed cameras returned.
My guess is that the newer of the .bmp files should of replaced the older when updating but because they have slightly different names the older one has remained. |

Unfortunately it would seem mine have gone for good!?
Are you supposed to see a speed camera icon on the map as well as the yellow box appearing?
If I look for my location and then move the map around to where I know there is a speed camera, I can't see it. If I drive towards it then the yellow box appears to tell me it's there.
I following your instructions but have had no joy |

managed to fix it...
Just so people know this is what my problem was;
settings - map
I had to turn on show POI's to ALWAYS
Then display POI's to IMPORTED POIs
It then showed up my cameras.

Here is my experience.
I have loaded the latest downlod patch (the "safety camera update") co pilot live 6.0.4.110. I have "show all POIs" set.
If I load the pocketgpsworld safety camera database
eg pocketgps.bmp pocketgps.ov2
then I can see the icons like any other POI.
To enable the new safety camera popups you need to rename the files before you load them up (any matching name startting with safetycamera)
eg safetycamera.bmp safetycamera.ov2
Now I can't see the camera icons in planning mode.
If I drive to within my set distance from a speed camera then ALLl the camera icons on the screen appear.
Now stop driving! Touch the screen and they all disappear. Start driving again and when it auto refreshed the screen then all the camer icons will reappear.
Told ALK and they didn't belive me at first. Then they suggested trying some different icons that they gave me.
Needless to say that didn't work - hey, its just a bitmap.
My guess is that the new safety camera popup function is overlaying the camera icons on the screen and they are not being displayed like other POI icons (although you can search for them). |

I am v new to CP6 & struggling with it.
I have the camera's down loaded from ALK & of course from here.
All I get is the yellow pop up box, no icons on the screen except from little coloured squares.
Checked as advised & all I have is 'safety cam'.
Any ideas chaps?

1) Little coloured squares just mean more than one POI at that place. Often happens on M25 variable speed section as you have 2 cameras one for each direction. Tap and hold on the 3-boxes and it will give a list of the POIs.
2) Don't use the icons from pocketgps. They have too many colours. Load them into your favourite bitmap editor (paintshoppro for me) and reduce the number of colours in the palette to 16. They may only use 2 or 3 colours but its the palette colour depth that matters.
3) On installing the ov2/bmp POI files, v6.0.4.110 (the "safety camera update") copies the bitmap(s) from the SAVE directory to \Program Files\CoPilot Pocket PC. You can just overwrite the bitmap file with a new version (same name) without re-installing the saferty camera POIs again.
I have created my own bitmaps (black border, yellow middle, small gatso image, and speed (30, 40, 50 etc)) at 16x16 pixels (same size as other copilot POI icons) and 22x22 (TT and pocketgps size), all at 16 bit colour depth, to go with the speed zoned OV2 files. I regularly swap between each of these and the pocketgps icons (converted to 16 bit colour depth) as I am trying to find which I think is best and most readable without looking garish.
4) Zoom in (tap on "+" button) and the multiple POIs will often seperate out into separate icons.
5) Some people (including me) experience a bug - You will only see safety camera icons when driving (not in planning mode). |

Isn't this database completely out of date. It was last updated 21/02/2007? |
