I hadn't bothered upgrading from TT5 to TT6 as my M5000 isn't listed as compatible with TT6. I've just looked again and I see the O2 XDA Exec is on the list, but the M5000 still isn't. How's this possible? They are the same hardware aren't they?
My M5000 isn't even really an M5000 I guess as I've flashed it with Windows Mobile 6 now, so I think it's 'unlocked' anyway.
I'm on the verge of downloading the new maps (6.6) which I believe gives me the Navigator upgrade for free (all for £67)
Any reason I shouldn't bother? _________________ TomTom 6 - SPV M5000 and WM6

The XDA EXEC is the same hardware as your device (apart from the colour of the keyboard backlight) - BUT the ROM that Orange install is different, you wll probably find that TT6 works fine on the device, however if you experiance a problem TomTom will not offer support as its not on their official list of "tested items".
That said, there are other options depending upon what you want to do with the device, for example you could unlock the hardware and install an O2 ROM to it, then it would work without a doubt, or if you really want to mess around load up a Windows Mobile version 6 ROM to it (and make it fly - it feels like a different device).
To answer your earlier questions about v660 maps below are a few screen shots of the area you are interested in:
I think you will find the above shows quite a difference to the map you are currently using, it is up to you though if you want TT6 there are further options IF you find it doesn't work, or simply go for the map update and stick with vs5 (about the only usefull differences I have found is the uplift to POI warnings so you can install 100 custom POI's and the Navigate to Lat/ Long function - Mike |

Not quite a chart but if you go to TomTom Plus/ Maps and select Navigator 5 you are presented with a list of devices to select from that are known to work with version 6, if you select one of these then select a map you will be offered the version 6 map, if your device is not listed you should select "other device" and it will give you the latest (same) map that is compatable with verison 5 sostware - Mike |

So I've downloaded the full 'maps of western europe' through TomTom home, it shows on TomTom Home as being on my device... but when I start TomTom it's still version 5 and the only map option is Great Britain Plus, which I already had installed.
What have I done wrong? How do I activate the map if it doesn't show? _________________ TomTom 6 - SPV M5000 and WM6

Download and install TomTom Home to your PC, put the card with the new map on it in the device and let TT Home check for updates, it should download the new application for you to then install (via TT Home) - Mike |

I did that, it doesn't work. I've found another thread, it seems a fair few other v5.21 users have been duped by TomTom and this 'buy a map and get a free upgrade' thing on their website. I'm e-mailed support to ask where I get my upgrade from... _________________ TomTom 6 - SPV M5000 and WM6

This morning I finally got a useful reply from TomTom support. They mailed me the v6 application, so I'm in business _________________ TomTom 6 - SPV M5000 and WM6

Does anyone know what TomTom now starts each time I reset my PDA? How can I stop this? _________________ TomTom 6 - SPV M5000 and WM6

You can rename the 'Autorun' file in the 2577 folder to prevent this. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Great, thanks. That folder was put there for the install from SD card. Do I even still need it now it's back to running from main memory? (Or I assume it's still running from there) _________________ TomTom 6 - SPV M5000 and WM6

Some of the application installs to Main Memory but some remains on the SD card. I'd caution against deleting any files on the SD. _________________ Darren Griffin |

A couple of points to pick up from this thread so far :
1. The list of compatible devices for TTN6 isn’t complete. I’ve just installed to a Yakumo Delta 300 GPS without problems, and that isn’t listed by TomTom. In fact, it isn’t really an “install”, just a insertion of the SD card.
2. TomTom HOME is a bloody awful piece of software. After trying to use it for a while I simply gave up on it and worked directly on the SD card. |
