Picked up my Nuvi 610t today. Once I had it all set up I took a drive around the local area for about an hour to try it out. I have linked the GMT 21 to an external aerial and there are 2 green lights showing on the charger, the signal strength is showing 30-31 and it shows 118 tuned channels. I have ran webupdater and have both the latest unit software and GTM firmware. The problem is that I am getting no traffic messages at all, anyone any ideas.

Not being funny, but have you tried it without the external aerial?
Adding length to the aerial may or may not help depending on the wavelength of the signal
For me, letting the aerial hang straight down (past the steering wheel and onto the floor!) seems to work well to get good signal in most of Cardiff.
Another possibility is the area you're in - whenever I'm in Swansea I get shite reception, for example.

Seems to be working great now. Not sure what was wrong but the the messages are coming in thick and fast. Still have it connected to the external aerial. I tried spicing it into the main car aerial but when listening to Talk Sport I used to get a lot of interference. I opted for a separate aerial that sticks on the inside of the back windscreen and can now listen to MW interference free and get traffic. |

Which aerial did you use, out of interest?
Vaguely tempted to do something similar myself to see if it improves matters. |

It is just a amplified glass mounted aerial that sticks on the inside of the rear windscreen, about £12 from the local car spares shop. I ran the aerial and power lead through the headlining and under the A post trim down to the nuvi. The power was taken from the radio live and the aerial justed twisted and taped to the GMT 21 aerial. 20 mins work in all. |
