|
|
Hi All,
I am thinking about buying the new TomTom Palm unit, and all the stuff I read bangs on about "pre-loaded on SD card, just insert in the T3 and away you go".
Now, lovely though that sounds, I actually want to use the SD slot on my T3 for a serious size SD card for MP3 etc, so, can one transfer the TomTom stuff to ones own SD card?

I think the answer at present is - we don't know. If the T3 supports the CPRM (digital rights management) features of SD, it's possible that TomTom have used those to prevent copying of the Navigator card.
Until anyone has had a chance to play with the T3 version of TomTom Navigator, I doubt we'll be able to answer your question.

Thanks, I am fearing they may be stupid enough to do it :-(
Surely with their rather strict activation system, there is no need to impose this restrcition on us?
It would be a lost sale here I am afraid, as I refuse to carry multiple SD cards around.

Well, according to TomTom (after some prompting) it looks like it will be fine.
Mine arrives tomorrrow I hope, so will confirm.
Here is the reply..

As a matter of fact you'll need a larger SD card if you wish to load the
'major roads of europe' which is a new feature provided in this new software. You can only transfer the data from the CD provided in the package directly to the SD card in the Palm Tingsten T3

Thanks for letting me just talk to myself here folks :-)
Well, it arrived and it very nice indeed, somehow better than when I had it on an Ipaq 2210.
It is easy to transfer to your own SD, just copy and paste from supplied CD then activate (supplied SD appears not to need activation)
You can also do it from CD to SD.
I will likely do a mini review of this, where shall I post it, here or in the Palm forum?

Sorry for teh lack of response, Palm users are still in the minority here but we now have Palm devices and are in the process of reviewing some applications so this should change
As for the mini-review that would be great, you can post in either TomTom or Palm, either way I'll cross link them and post a quick news item _________________ Darren Griffin |

Here's praying that Dynamite will also be able to bail palm users out of tomtom's "no uk postcode support" like he did for ppc users with his wonderful programme! |

I have just posted my mini review of this over in the Palm forum, and I have to say that UK Postcodes seem to work here.....
What I do is type CB2 5 and it pops up the street listings, type in Mill Court and it pretty much finds the place spot on.
I guess you mean just type in the full postcode in one hit? |

Yes; I presumed that was the great benefit Niel's wonderful programme afforded ppc users? |
