Garmin are releasing Mapsource City Navigator New Zealand.
Garmin wrote: |
* Detailed national street network — coverage for all of New Zealand
* Detailed coverage with turn restrictions and maneuvers for Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, Christchurch and Dunedin — with this purchase you will have access to the entire CD coverage
* Displays points of interest such as:food and drink, lodging, petrol stations, hospitals and more
* Contains motorways, national and regional thoroughfares and local roads
* Contains turn restrictions and speed categories
* Will automatically create point-to-point routes in MapSource and on your compatible Garmin GPS |
It sounds like it only has turn restriction information in major cities. Probably not such a big problem since the smaller towns aren't that difficult to find your way around!
It has a comically large number of POIs. It even shows the location of corner shops which is a bit of a laugh. _________________ Gone fishing! |

I'd really like to buy the New Zealand maps for my Garmin i3, but I'm understandably very reluctant to pay more for a map than I paid for my Sat-Nav system. Does anyone know anywhere where I could get the maps cheaply? |

Have a look at these two:
http://gwprojects.orcon.net.nz/gps/
http://www.nzgpsmaps.com/main.html
I don't know if they are routable (ie they allow turn by turn directions on your Garmin) or not.
Failing that, the "Kiwi Pathfinder" road atlas is a very good map book. I'd recommend it if you are driving in NZ anyway! :D _________________ Gone fishing! |

I'm going to NZ for a 2.5 week motorcycle tour and am thinking about getting the CD ROM based City Navigator... It's pricey, as you guys know.
Does anyone know if this CD is something I can RENT???
I know about the 3rd party solutions, but I really want all the Garmin POI data...
- Thanx

Probably the best thing is to try and rent a GPS unit in NZ. _________________ Gone fishing! |
