I should imagine that the warning was based upon a year after Navigon's release date, and not a year after the date when they bought the map data, which could have been considerably earlier. _________________ Ian

The warning actually said something along the lines of 'your map is out of date' so I guess it depends on the map version. I doubt this feature will be available with Navigon 6 because of the dated maps. Destinator 6 came out around January last year and it had Q1 2006 maops. Navigon comes out at roughly the same time in 2007 and yet it's maps are older. Cheapskates if you ask me! |

I use it all the time however I use it with POIObserver available free of charge from Navifriends.com.
I see there are options to show camera positions etc. but I have no idea whether they are in the package or hooks for another POI software package.

Although the maps, on the DVD, are dated Aug 2006 they must be older as my address does not exist and they agreed in July 2006 to correct it. There is no warning of out of date map material.

I ordered mine on the 25th and it arrived by UPS Standard.
By the way Don't do what I did!
When you figure out how to put the 2Gb card into the adapter DO NOT LOCK IT. If you do when you register the software then when you enter the activation code it will tell you that it is incorrect!!!! - Sloppy programming. |

Can you imagine how many e-mails I sent? I even broke down and phoned, at 25p pm, to find that when pushing 1, as instructed, I got nothing.
I did get one reply telling me that I didn't have to register the map!
Eventually I gave in, partially, I got the real telephone number and rang it via one of these cheapo telephone companies at 0.05p pm and by accident they solved it. |

OK. Dial the following numbers:
08442009595
listen to message and then dial:
004940370880
That is the main switchboard for Navigon in Hamburg Germany.
Have fun! |

Thanks for the info, I have tried that number and the main reception gave me another number, guess what its the premium rate number , only to be told that my order is being processed and will be dispatched within the next week so it looks like it will take 6 weeks between the order date and the final delivery date.
BE WARNED IF YOU ORDER THIS PRODUCT FROM NAVIGON, BE PREPARED TO WAIT |

All this just proves how useless Navigon are: The maps are dated Q4 2005. They are certainly not from August 2006. In my view, there is no way a brand new product should be released with maps over a year old.
The latest maps I am aware of that are available on some other products are the Navteq Q2 2006 maps.
Thanks |

I've been reading reviews of MN6 with the TS7000T unit on Amazon's German website. Running them through Alta Vita's (albeit rather poor!) translator, it seems that there are a few inherent problems with this combination: it is very slow to "boot up" and to calculate routes, while any changes you have made to the default option settings seem to be lost when you power the unit off.
Now we've got the issue of disappointnigly outdated maps - and I presume updates will only be available if you buy MN7, whenever that appears.
It's interesting to read about the partnership with Porsche - perhaps they will fund the inclusion of more up-to-date maps?
On paper MN6 appears to be a terrific product (particularly in combination with the TS7000 unit, which provides a true "all-in-one" solution with TMC) but it all seems to be shaping up to being a similar disaster to the initial release of MN5.

In case you haven't noticed ther is an update for PNA users to 6.1 which apparently fixes the slowness.
These maps could well be Q2 2006 but how can you tell?
It would also appear that Navigon are partnering with POIWarner. |

Thanks for the info. Apparently the patch also fixes a problem whereby the application would crash when powering off the TS7000 unit. But with such major faults, you have to wonder why they weren't addressed as part of product development, let alone allow be launched to market in thta state. It's hardly as though Navigon have rushed the release of MN6 !!

I got the Navigon MN6 7000 Pna version in Dec 2006. I had a lot of problems with slow start up, crashing of the device showing Fatal error messages and non existent tmc in many instances.
I updated in jan 2007 with 6.1 and many of the problems are over.
But 2 problems remain
Tmc reports are very few ( I have set my setting to recieve "all traffic reports "only only on route ) and I have driven with 2 other devices ( Mda 11 Mn4 & Mn5 ) in some ionstance I got 60 reports on MN4 & MN5 while THe MN6 only had none or 5! In addition if I drive more than 100 km per hour the tmc triangle turned with red and stops recieving reports until I stopped.
The other problem is if I do recieve a Tmc report that includes a mobile police camera warning this shows up as a triangle with a warning sign and as I pass this control post if it is no my route the device crashes!
I have contacted Navigon several times and sent the device back once and I continually being fobbed off. No fault was found and they reported that all software ware re- installed . However when I got my MN6 7000 back the setting was still the same . So I am now confronting them with this and waaiting thier answer .
I am an experienced user with Navigon Mn4 & Mn5 so I know how to postion the tmc antenna , settings etc .
I am now also writing to the MD and if my device is not replaced I shall send it to him and ask to put in where the sun don't shine!
I was very happy with MN4 and then later with MN5. My advice to everyone who wants to buy MN6 -hold your money until they sort it out at navigon .
Incidentally I am looking for a new navi with Tmc in case I get no joy at Navigon ...any ideas ?...I find the maps of the Garmin Nuvi 660 too cartoonish....... any experiences with Igo? |

Even with only a few messages, this is contrary to what Navigon themselves have stated: according to them TMC will not work at all in the UK until they have developed a small "plug-in" program for MN6. I can't decide whether they are giving out deliberate disinformation or they simply don't know their own product. What is interesting is that they don't seem keen on submitting the product for media reviews.
Meanwhile the UK concessionaire, Talex, refuses to enter into correspondence, though they are still gleefully advertising the MN6 range on their website.

Yes, TMC has always worked very well with MN4 in the UK (provided you use your car's own antenna).

If you have kept copies of all correspondence and you paid by credit card, you should be able to instruct your credit card company to action a refund on the grounds that the product is not fit for purpose. If enough people do this, it might just motivate Navigon to get these appalling problems sorted out.

Actually Dave.... I bought my Navigon MN6 directly from Navigon in Germany.
Small correction I actually use my MN6 all over Europe I have driven approx 12000 km in Europe mostly Germany , Holland & Belgium. To be honest I have not yet tried it in the UK yet . I am due back in Uk in march but meanwhile my MN6 is returned to Navigon in Germany.
I can confirm that MN4 & MN5 work prerfectly in UK regarding the TMC reports using the original antenna from Navigon or the Y cable with car antenna.
The customer service at Navigon are very polite but so far I have no joy!It seems the bosses are in cuckoo land!
I was expecting a much better product from Navigon with MN6.
Another disappointment are the old maps!
They get one more change to replace the TS7000 otherwise I will contact my credit card company. The idiots don't realise how much business they are losing to the competitors. :x |
