Hi

The Navman PiN 570 PDA and GPs system is a little out of date but im getting if for xmas, I was thinking about setting it up on xmas morning to use just as a test on xmas after noon ish to go from newcastle to darlington to see how it copes as i have found out that sometimes this may freeze or lock up. I have no idea if this is true but i will soon find out.

I was just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes to set the navman up from 1st turn on to being able to use it on the roads?

I hope someone can advise me a little further on this as i am very very new to SarNav's.

You can let it acquire the first fix while in the house (put it near window).
It can take 10-30 minutes to do so.
It will make it easier/quicker subsequently to get a fix when you go into the car.
How to set it up really depends on what software you are using.

A friend of mine purchased a Pin570 several months ago and finds it works well.

The first thing you will need to do is charge the battery for the recommended time, several hours usually on first charge, the instructions will tell you how long.

Once done do as Pc-Mobile says and go outside to get a lock. If your car has an athermic windcscreen it's best to always get a lock outside the car first. Once you've done this the screen will not be a problem.

Make sure you don't drive off without a lock on the sats. or it will take far longer to lock-on, if at all.

Don't worry for now about any updates. Give it the test run from Newcastle to Darlington, make a mental note of any problems you may come across and post them here.

We have a NavmanPin570 which we have used for over a year now. It works well most times but find that there are a few issues. It has problem with the loading of the Maps when it has been used as a PDA. It runs out of memory and freezes. Is it at all possible to upgrade the 64 Mb Ram to 256Mb Ram?

We would like to add the ability to detect Speed/Safety Cameras, as in the case of the Navman F20. Can one do it with the Pin 570?

I am getting a Kingstom 2Gb SD Card to use with it and I hope it will cope better. We use the PDA and GPS aspects a lot and individually they work fine. But when we witch from PDA to GPS we have to reboot the device all the time now and find it frustrating.

yea you can have the speed cameras on this. you can put the tomtom speed camera POI's on it :D

I aint sure if you can upgrade the RAM at present as im just getting used to it as i just got this unit for xmas.

I currently have a VDO Dayton MS5000 in my car and having accidently damaged the lcd screen, I've decided it might be a good time to look at a more portable alternative
Having read this thread, I'm wondering if the pin 570 might suit my needs.
It seems it is on offer for £99 from Halfords at the moment and I would appreciate your advice.
I need it purely as satnav to cover the UK and Europe including as much of eastern Europe as possible.
Given that there are number of satnav units available for less than £150, I would value your opinions regarding choice.
I need to consider the total cost including any additional map downloads.

I've just been on the Navman website and the pIN570 PDF shows an earphone socket. Would this mean I could stick it in my pocket and get verbal directions while riding my bike?

The pin 570 can have any sized memory card for storage but you can only have 500MB of maps on the card.
This is becauce the smart st loads 10% of the maps into the memoryand only having limited memory this will quickly get filled.

Unfortuneately there are no more updates for the pin 570 as this is a discontinued product.

Interesting to hear the pin570 is obsolete! Have just got one from Halfords @ 99, loaded tomtom5 and it works a treat. Wondering if there is any need for anything more advanced?
