Has anyone been able to achieve anything useful with OpenTom yet?
It all seems a bit proof-of-concept which nothing actually usable!

I have been using in on my 500. I did a modified version to add a few features (OGG playback etc.) It's certainly more than a proof-of-concept - it's a good solution for listening to podcasts on a long journey where you don't need navigation assistance.
I think with the emergence of the 910 the novelty of the OpenTom project was lost a bit, but I expect there are still many Go owners who could make use of it.
The OpenTom site seems to have stagnated - I did send in my modifications but there hasn't been a new release since then. If anyone is interested I could sort out a GPL release, but the existing OpenTom version would work for most. |

What functionality have you got working?
MP3/Ogg playback, anything else?
Do you know if anyone has produced pre-compiled binaries for the various TomTom models?

The MP3 playback worked "out of the box", but I added:
OGG playback
MP3 ID3 tag support (display tag info instead of filename)
Fix for mono & variable bitrate MP3 files
If there is something here that you need I will try to sort out a release, but as I said the basic MP3 support works for most uses. |
