I seem to be asking lots of questions at the moment as I am looking at refreshing my Sat Nav.
I currently have CP5 which is good but having used TT3 I like the simpler voice and the ability to update with various POI items which is easier. I have been offered a, kosher, copy of TT5 (5.21) and this would allow me to buy a new SIRF III BT receiver.
Not sure if the TT5 has street level maps of Europe which I would like but it seems obvious that TT5 is better than TT3 ? _________________ TomTom 720

Hi topgazza
I used to own a 2210 on which I ran TT3 and later TT 5.21 and both worked excellently on that device. TT5 was superior and the street level maps of the UK and Europe were pretty good.
As you are probably aware one can now buy a more up-to-date seamless map of Western Europe (including Ireland) for TT5 and I can assure you that option works great too.
But remember, if you did later decide to get the seamless map it is rather large and one really needs a 2 Gig card. As for a more up-to-date GPS receiver try the BT 338, its brilliant. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

And TT6 is even better than TT5 IMHO. |

Cheers chaps.
I notice places sell TT6 with maps of Europe for £99. Seems to be the "seamless" EU map as well. Is that the sort of price TT6 & EU goes for ?
I have both a 1GB or a 2gb SD card sitting and waiting. I will need to check if the TT5 I have been offered has that EU street level mapping of the major roads because that will save me.
I'm only paying £35 for the TT5 5.21 and its unopened so its a bargain _________________ TomTom 720

You will find that your more modern GPS receiver will put your old receiver in the shade. I was sitting in my living room when I first pressed my BT338 ‘On’ button and was gob-smacked when I got a fix in about half a minute. My old receiver always gave up the ghost when I was driving in Towns or cities surrounded by high buildings but the new one just keeps on working away.
I have just read the review about the receiver you are going to use (Holux BT GPSlim 236) and it looks as if you will also be pleasantly surprised. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Just spotted, on the TT web site the Nav 5 v 6.6 pan European maps for £89 and just the Spain & Portugal for £33 which seem like bargains to me @20% off. Still need to wait and find what my TT5 maps are, street or just major roads before the offer runs out on 31/12...... _________________ TomTom 720

I have tried to find the answer in the User Guide but have not found it.
Also after I installed the POI's my pictures have jumped to over 700,most of them icons. Is this normal?
I have a 1 Gig memory card in the Nokia N70.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

scimann1 , might be worth asking a question in a new thread so more see it.
My Holux GPSlim 236 arrived today. 5 days from Hong Kong over Christmas...impressive, especially at £36 delivered. One thing I noticed was that TT5 is more sensitive to slightly weak sat signals that Co Pilot., which gives me a fix with almost any signal. However the Holux, set up as NMEA Cable receiver in TT5 setup! A tip from the TT web site would you believe and it works when "Other BT Receiver" didn't I always get the "you need to pair your pda with your BT device" whci I had done , anyways the Holux fired up and within a minute was working with TT5.
Very impressive. _________________ TomTom 720

Hi topgazza
I’m pleased to see that your new GPS receiver is up and running ok. I too purchased my receiver from Hong Kong and was amazed when it arrived only five days after ordering online. Only a few years ago a normal person at home wouldn’t have dreamed of carrying out such a transaction. How things change _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Don't know about co-pilot but TomTom will not use a GPS signal until the GPS receiver reports a positional lock (2D or 3D). Depending on your GPS unit it may transmit last valid position even though it doesn't have a lock. Co-pilot may be erroneously using this information. |

That would be it and in a less technical way what I meant. Co Pilot, with the same receiver got a good enough lock to start and plan a journey with less sats than TT seems to like. However, with the new Holux all that is in the past. Excellant piece of kit _________________ TomTom 720

Topgazza - I see you are using a 2210. Although TT6 will work on a 2210, it is not supported bt TomTom and it is reported that it slows down considerably compared with TT5, and occasionally freezes.
If you want street level European mapping, you would do best to buy the option for non-supported devices, which will work well with your TomTom 5.21
When I was using a 2210 I also bought the Holux GPSlim 236 - a cracking good receiver. I have a spare cigar lighter in my boot, so I kept it permanently plugged in there. It got a perfectly good signal from the boot, and TomTom started up instantly as the Holux always had a fix. The current it drew from the battery by being permanently on was negligible.
I had thought of advertising my GPSlim for sale, but now that you have drawn attention to the Hong Kong route, I won't get much for it!!!
