|
|
Hello
I have just received my tom tom one and it has either a stuck or dead pixel. Its green and always present.
I got it from curry and I understand that they do not exchange lcd with a few or more dead pixels so wondered if this is the same policy for tomtom's?
Kind Regards |

tell them the screen is faulty - don't mention 'dead pixel' or it may remind them about a dead pixel policy they have. if they then go on to mention that their dead pixel policy requires eg a few dead pixels ask them to point out specifically where it says that this includes sat nav products and why you weren't informed of this policy when you bought it.
kick up a fuss but without getting angry and chances are they'll exchange it.

Not exactly related to your specific problem with your TT, but I had a very interesting experience yesterday trying to return a TT910 to the Canterbury branch of Currys.
I had bought it mid december online, having read that I could take it to a branch if I had a problem. I had to take it back as there was something wrong with the gps reception, it kept losing the signal, and it also it would not lock onto roads to give driving direction, eg quite major ones like the M20. (I blame the 910 as my TT5 on an ipaq and co-pilot running on an O2 orbit were not having problems).
The customer service lady started off very agressively, stating I could not have a replacement even before I had started detailing the problem. After a bit of prompting she phoned the on-line customer services who asked her to do an exchange, but she still refused and also refused to get the manager for them to talk to. The queue building up behind were finding this quite amusing, I did not have to do anything but remain calm as all the aggression was coming from the lady behind the desk.
She then gave me the phone to talk to the Currys on-line people and they were most apologetic! They said the only was to handle it was to give me a refund and for me to go buy another. So that is what happened, then 5 minutes later, while I was still in the shop, Currys phoned again on my mobile (I suppose they got it from my order details) to apologise again and said they would send me some gift vouchers to compensate for my problems. Those arrived this morning (£30) by special delivery.
Of course you might be lucky and get a nice customer service person in the shop, but I think I have come out of it quite well. |

One little trick that sometimes works on 'dead' pixels is to gently rub over it/them with a lint free cloth, light pressure in a circular motion. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

The Comet's dead pixel policy is totally irrelevant. The unit is defective and you are entitled to get it fixed for free or get a replacement. The law of the land (UK anyway) comes first.

That's not going to help on a TomTom ONE
If you're a little concerned about pushing for a replacement due to a dead pixel, you could always take a backup of the SD card's contents then wipe it (or even just remove a system file). Then take it back as faulty _________________ Darren Griffin |

nice idea!
I'm just going to take it back today and say its freezes at random points so I would like a straight swap.
I can't really see them kicking up a fuss but if they do then I will simply take to another store and another trick. |

Its a good idea however, they are more than likely to simply exhance the SD card.
Exchanged mine this morning. Exampled that its kept freezing etc and they exchanged no problem. The guy didn't even open the box to check if anything was in there! |

| I hadn't looked that closely.
However Quote: | One little trick that sometimes works on 'dead' pixels is to gently rub over it/them with a lint free cloth, light pressure in a circular motion. | It would only take a few seconds to try this and could save a lot of messing about exchanging etc. :D _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property
