Hi all, I have been having problems using a Navman 3400 GPSr Sleeve with Tomtom Navigator 5 software on my Compaq Ipaq H3760. And i was wondering if there is another wired GPSR receiver that i could plug into my ppc instead of using the Navman Sleeve ? Wish i had read up on the Navman 3400 abit more before buying ! But we live and learn
Cheers DGC808 |

I've had an iPaq H3630, the wife has a H3850 and I currently have an HX4700 and the Fortuna U2 works well with all of them and seems to be one of the more sensitive of the cabled receivers. They can be picked up relatively cheaply from Ebay. I can't remember if the H3760 has a CF slot, if it does a CF GPS receiver could be another option.

In the area of wired GPS receivers you could also look at the BR-355.
The review of this is on the pocketgps web site here

I suppose it depends on what you are after, The Globalsat is expensive at £76 but the review is very good. The Fortuna can be picked up for less than half of the price of the Globalsat - in fact I picked up a Fortuna U2 for a tenner including postage on Ebay.
Horses for courses.....by the eay, I checked and the 3760 doesn't have a CF slot unless you have the jacket for it, you may be better off with a cable receiver.

I have been using the Fortuna U2 serial since having my PDA running TOMTOM version 3 then upgraded to TOMTOM 5 have never been that happy with the Fortuna always slow to start and starting again from warm was always a problem someting 20 mins to lock on again. So after careful checking the web purchased a BR-355 a GPS mouse receiver with a PS2 connector and convertor for my PDA, well what a difference this has been uses the new SiRF III chipset and never fails from cold the longest is 2 minutes to lock and from warm start straigt away also tree covered areas still works great. So when I stop to fill up with fuel I do not have to pannick again. Great purchase see write-up on Pocket GPS http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/globalsat-br355-gps-review.php |
