Hi can anyone tell me if, when people submit a new location for a camera, is it checked? The reason i ask is, i live in Worcester, and it seems to me people have submitted locations just to get a lifetime membership. not to benifit the database.
In some locations there is the location for a fixed gatso, and recently someone has added temporary locations within 100yds?? I also see it up the M42, OK there are a lot of cameras, but people have submitted gatso, and tempoary cameras for the same location. I am running it on my TomTom 710 which does work well. i just think the tight gitts out there will just submit location to save a couple of quid, ruining a quality database.
Perhaps it would be a good idea not to offer lifetime memberships for new submission!! As this database is now falling apart.

Hi, yes, camera locations are validated.
Please can you give me a camera id number in the area you are concerned about?
If you are referring to the ones on the A44 where there is a Gatso and a Mobile (NOT temp) then this does not cause an issue. Mobile sites are often placed near existing gatsos to either a) catch traffic in the opposite direction or b) to catch people who speed up straight after a gatso.
Again, the sites on the M5 are mobile sites and not temporary camera locations.
Mobile sites do not give the submitter free lifetime membership.

1. They don't get free membership for submitting mobile cameras.
2. I've recently noticed a few instances of mobile vans being close to fixed camera sites - I've actually seen some vans myself. You'll also get temporary cameras just anywhere with roadworks. Sometimes they get onto the database only just before the roadworks finish and anybody who hasn't got the latest update might be warned after they've been removed from the road. If there are some you know are wrong, send the details in on the submission page to be updated.
3. If you check the words about free membership, you'll see that they need somebody else (at least one, either a member of the PGPSW team checks it, or another member like you and me submits it) to submit the same camera to confirm before it goes into the database. According to one thing I read, they sometimes get dozens for the same one and MANY with not the same location (different by many yards in each direction).
I agree with you. I think there are some people out there who don't have the database's best interest as first priority. Whether that's somebody out for a free membership or a competitor trying to mess it up, or a couple of individuals who think a phantom camera in their village would slow us all down. Sick.
We can but try our best to send in any information we can to help keep it on top. The free membership offer seems a good thing to me (being prejudiced because I benefitted from it myself 10 months ago and I DO still make submissions).
On behalf of all the rest of us who've been here a bit longer,
Look around, find out how to do a submission yourself (Submit Cameras) and submit corrections to help. How long since you went up the M42? - I had the same thoughts myself, but the latest database (13th December) seems to have cleaned it up pretty well. _________________ Dennis
